Has anyone else delayed Chemo like me?

Was suppose to start Chemotherapy tomorrow ( 5th June) but panick set in last week. After my mastectomy & full node clearance almost 5wks ago I didnt feel fully healed & ready for chemo …Also wasnt mentally prepared if Im being totally honest. Spoke to my Oncologist who agreed to delay till 27th June & now received a letter saying appoitment is 16th July … I will phone up tomorrow to check as Oncologist told me no later than the 27th June.

Just wondering is anyone else felt they had to delay? Im so scared of chemo & the side effects, cant even sleep on a night.

Hi Rictina

As far as I am aware, chemo should be started within 12 weeks of surgery, so you are still within the recommended time.

Do you know what type of chemo you are having?

I assure you, it will not be nearly as bad as you think. And I’m sure there will be many ladies on here who will say the same thing.Personally, I was not unwell with chemo. I just suffered with fatigue on the first week.

Yes there will be some side effects, but think of all the good it is doing too.

Try joining the monthly chemo threads when the time comes, and then you can talk to others going through the same as you.

Best wishes

Hi Ricinta, Sue C is right. It really isn’t as bad as one thinks. Day 3 and 4 afterwards is achy and not the days to plan anything.Drink lots and lots of water to flush your bladder and take gentle walks. Day 5 gets better and then it really picks up. Eat well and stay nourished. Luckily I had no nausea as an anti sickness is given at time of chemo I was able to work after day 5. Honestly if I was told I ever had to have it again it wouldn’t worry me. Also it’s your ammunition in this war, so be brave and strong and go kill any stray microscopic critters. Within the 12 weeks.

Sooner you start, sooner you finish. Plan a nice reward for when you’re finished. I had a beauty voucher so used that as my reward. Good luck with it all.
