Has anyone got any advice about full node clearance op after positive sentinel node found at lumpect

Hi All

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy of one node only (surgeon said it was standard practice to do one only). The node was strongly positive so now due to have a full under arm clearance op. The surgeon told me not to worry as he doesn’t think any will be positive but I honestly feel he is just trying to be nice because how can he know? I am terribly  worried about the likelihood of more positive nodes - does anyone have any experience of this and outcomes?

Thank you Bookie

I don’t think it’s standard practice to take just one. From what my surgeon told me they take how many light up. Mine took two for instance but I was told it could be as many as three. And positive nodes doesn’t mean you’re doomed. They have tons of treatments now and most people do quite well positive nodes or not. It might make a difference in your treatment, like maybe they’ll recommend chemo for instance, but plenty of people with node positive breast cancer do fine.
