Has Anyone Had Radiotherapy Twice ?

Hi There,

Originally I had WLE followed by radiotherapy in 2004. I have had a local recurrence this month near the scar towards the breastbone which has been removed by another WLE at my request, otherwise they wpould carried out mastectomy as a standard treatment.

I am being offered a second round of radiotherapy on a low dosage localise to the new scar which will overlap with the old scar. Has anyone else had two radiotherapy treatments and what were the effect on the skin as I understand the risk are increased ? I was lucky to have no side effect apart from a strange coloured suntan on the first treatment.

I would appreciate any replies.

Best wishes,
Gee

i thought they couldnt do the same area twice… i am due to have ads to my left breast at the end of the year and had them to the right breast 3 years ago… but they said they wouldnt overlap and thats why i can get them.

perhaps it depend on how many you had previously i had a total of 25 and i dont think they give more than 30 to one area but perhaps if you had 15 before and then get another 15 now.

Found this article on the net and it is encouraging for a second round of radiotherapy. Good luck!

I’m to have booster sessions on the area where my tumour was because of the type/stage it was and because I had reacted badly to chemo. I was told on that area I will not be able to have any more radiation but that I could on other areas of my boob. My Aunt was on a trial in Kent where she had 2 lots of rads and 2 lots of chemo but no op. I’m sure that the oncologist will have made sure that what they’re doing for you is safe. I hope the SEs aren’t too bad again.
Take care and good luck

Katie

whoops put on twice!

Ive had rads twice but not in the same area. I was told that the reason you cant have it twice is because it recognizes that the area has been treated and therefore has no effect.

I don’t think that makes senses but hopefully you will get my drift.
