I wanted to see if anyone else was diagnosed with Hashimoto prior to having cancer and starting Tamoxifen?
This is the 3rd time I am trying to take these pills (there is a previous post of mine about it and I found out it was indeed my thyroid going hyper and had to reduce levothyroxine doses which never happened to me before). Now I am on 10 mg of Tamoxifen roughly for the past month.
The past 2 days I ended up in A&E for what I though was come issues with my heart but also a really bad pulling sensation in my thyroid. Yesterday they pretty much told me its my tinnitus and that I am just anxious. However, they did say there was some stress and redo my Troponin both times. Today I feel again sweating, crying, anxious, a sense of impeding doom coming and dizzy. I am honestly struggling so much because there is no way I cannot take tamoxifen, but I am starting to wonder if it is affecting my thyroid?
I don’t know I feel pretty invalidated from healthcare providers at the moment.
I don’t know if I’m Hashimotos because I had to cancel my endocrine appointments when I was diagnosed . I was trying to finally see if I could get my thyroid sorted .
I’ve been hypo for 25 years ( that was diagnosis , probably longer ) but I know I don’t absorb T4 well . My T3 was low.
I’ve been on Anastrazole for a year , after a few months I asked to reduce my thyroxine as my TSH had swung into the hyper range . I felt wired and was having panic attacks but because I’d been through radiotherapy , GP blamed it on that .
I’m not sure how tamoxifen interacts with thyroid hormones .
With Anastrazole , it’s straightforward, I don’t have oestrogen , all hormones are interdependent , so my thyroid is impacted .
Can you ask to see an endocrinologist? The one I saw was pretty useless . They don’t seem to understand thyroid and rely totally on TSH
I’m a little behind in my journey as just started 6 months of chemo but will be moving on to tamoxifen following this and radiotherapy - I was diagnosed with hashimotos and underactive thyroid the week after I received my breast cancer diagnosis! I knew the hashimotos was coming as a very strong family link, I’m hoping it’s not going to be another rollercoaster with the tamoxifen and hashimotos
I don’t know if this will help you but I’m halfway through my five year check, after nine months at start being on Tamoxifen had so many side affects I read up a lot and Anastrezole seemed a very good alternative it was actually on the News a while back saying they were going to distribute it to.what I believe to help prevent Breast Cancer, I’ve got on a lot better with it the only down side as all these meds can have , it can affect bones but I asked for a regular Dexa scan which keeps check. Good Luck.
