Have BRCA2 and an 11 year old daughter. Need to explain it to her soon

I haven’t discussed the implications of BRCA2 yet. Has anyone got some experience of raising it with a daughter this age? She knows about my breast cancer and reconstruction, but not that it is genetic.

Hi chaoticath

You might find it helpful to order a copy of the BCC booklet ‘breast cancer in families’ It contains lots of information which might help you when talking to your daughter. If you would like a copy just use the link below:-

www2.breastcancercare.org.uk/publications/worried-about-breast-cancer/breast-cancer-families-bcc32

Also if you would like to talk things through with some one please don’t hesitate to give the BCC helpline a call on 0808 800 6000, where you can chat to a trained member of the team. The lines are open Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.

I hope you find this helpful.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator
