Have you booked a place on the Younger Women’s Together event in Sheffield?

Booked a place on the Younger Women’s Together event in Sheffield but worried about going alone?

Considering booking a place but not sure?

Every year we receive queries from women, including concerns about coming along to the event on their own. Feedback from previous events has said how helpful it was to talk before the event.
This thread is a chance for you to say hello and “meet” others attending the Younger Women Together. I will check in regularly and if you have any questions do let me know and I will do my best to answer them.

Look forward to meeting you all on Friday

Not really sure what to write as i’ve never replied before. But…

My name is Caroline and i’m 46yrs old. I was diagnosed January 2014 with Grade 2 Lobular Breast Cancer.

I had a Wide Local Excision and Axillary Node Clearance this was followed by Chemotherapy (T.A.C), Cavity Shave, Radiotherapy and Tamoxifen. Seemed to have spent most of last year year travelling to Western Park Hospital :womanlol:

Im looking forward to meeting other young people as i haven’t met many people below 50!!!

Looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday.

Hi ladies

I’m Leanne, age 39 from just outside Leeds. I was first diagnosed with DCIS in 2014. Had WLE. At my annual mammo in January was found to have invasive & DCIS in my other breast. Had a double mastectomy with immediate recon using implants and ADM matrix. Haven’t been able to have the recommended treatment of chemo or radiotherapy. As I had childhood leukaemia and have lots of side effects from the original chemo and radiotherapy that have caused long term heart damage. They also have linked the breast cancer and other cancers I’ve had to the total body radiation I received as a child.
Looking forward to meeting you all, if a tad nervous. Will be nice to meet younger ladies in the same boat.

See you all soon
Leanne xx

Hello Caroline, Jane and Leanne

I’m just rushing to get the train to Sheffield so this will be a short post!  Hi I’m Liz-Anne, I’m 41 and was diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer (with spread to lymph nodes) on 1st April; mastectomy and lymph node clearance end of April; starting chemo on Tuesday (so will be really helpful to hear your experiences!).

Looking forward (and a bit nervous!) to seeing you all

Best wishes

Liz-Anne

Hello ladies. I’m so sorry to hear all of you have been through the mill.

I’m Helen, 43, I live in the Peak District with my husband and 4 kids. I have a strong family history of breast cancer but we don’t carry defects in the BRCA genes so we must have some other genetic problem that hasn’t been discovered yet. I therefore had a long battle to be listened to, but to cut a long story short I had an elective double mastectomy with dermal flap reconstruction in September 2014.

When the histology came back in November it turned out I already had breast cancer - a large area of DCIS and a small invasive cancer. As the surgeon didn’t know it was there the margins were not clear so I had further surgery to remove the reconstruction on the affected side. When this histology came back there was a further large area of DCIS and another invasive cancer that had been left in after the initial surgery. I then got an infection which resulted in further surgery in January.

As I was lucky enough to avoid chemo I had really bounced back in the last month or so, but I had a slight set back last week - my remaining implant was not MRI compatible and so I had to have another operation to have it exchanged for a different one. So I might be still a bit fragile tomorrow but am perfectly fit enough to chat! I’m really looking forward to meeting you all.

Hi everyone, my name is Lisa and I am 45 years old.  I live near Sheffield with my husband and 2 children aged 11 and 14.

I was diagnosed with DCIS and invasive ductal carcinoma April 2014.  I had wide local excision and cavity shave, lymph nodes were clear, 4 rounds of FEC chemo, 15 sessions of radiotherapy and am now having herceptin injections (on 11 out of 18) and tamoxifen.   Later on this year I may be having my ovaries removed.

It will be lovely to meet you all tomorrow, make new friends and share experiences. I am really looking forward to it!!!

Is there an event like this in London, I’m only 38 and I only ever seem to meet/know older women with BC and I would like to meet and chat to women a closer age to me.

Thanks x
