Well first of all can I say I don’t want to know about any topless photos taken on your holidays!
Joking aside, I had an appointment to see my surgeon today and she asked if would minded having my breasts photographed for Clinical purposes.
This is to show ladies that sometimes surgery for BC is not all as it is portrayed in the media with articles of mastectommies and the scarring that it entails, but to show that for conserving surgery it can sometimes have quite positive looking results.
I said yes. As a person who cannot run for a bus never mind run to raise money for charity or ask people for money, or do any of the other things that all those great people who do do things for charity, I feel this is my way of giving something back. If I can help somebody overcome their fears I am willing to do it.
So has anybody on the forum had their post op breasts photgraphed for this kind of thing? I have my appointment with the hospitals Clinical Photograpy and Illustration Department in September.
Sending you Hugs and XXXXXXXXXXXX and wishes of good health.
What a great thing to do. I think it will be really helpful for women facing surgery as it’s so scary dealing with the BC, then on top of that worrying about the results of the surgery. I myself wasn’t photographed but I think I would have done it if asked. Good luck with everything, x
Haven’t had my op yet; but was asked if I would consider it and said Yes, think it’s a good idea as it shows other patients their surgeons handiwork! My bcn has already shown me some from my surgeon. Good Luck!
Yes my surgeon asked me if he could take photos for training purposes and of course I agreed. He went to great lengths not to show my face (as if I cared). To me it was a bit like agreeing to have student doctors have a look. They have to start somewhere after all. And how scary must that be for them?
This isn’t the same at all, but at my rads planning, the young male radiographer asked if he could take a photo of my breast whilst I was lying on the radiography bed. That was the closest I ever got to being a pin-up!
Then, which I was dressed, the female radiographer (or radiologist?) asked if she could take a photo of my face, to make sure that they were treating the right person, ie matching the breast with the face
Hi again a little bit different. Had photo of (before) boob done when tattoes done prior to chemo ( hope was that tumour would shrink) have to have after photo done at next appt with surgeon. No my face was not on these as far as I know but hope this will help both ladies and staff in the future. JaackieXX
I’ve had my breasts photographed several times by my surgeon. Once before lumpectomy, once after, once 2 weeks after mastectomy and once 1 year down the line. I believe he uses them for training purposes and to check how things are progressing. He always showed me the photos He didn’t take any photos of my face and I only hope they don’t end up in readers wives ha ha.
I had mine snapped before my wle. I think I may be at the same trust as you, pennine? My bcn showed me photos of my surgeons work when I was deciding between wle and mx. There weren’t many photos of younger women so I offered to have some before and after ones done. I went to the medical photo dept and the lady photographer was greAt. It ws a proper little studio but very private with a private changing area adjacent to the studio. She did a front shot and then shot of each side on . My face wasn’t on it. I haven’t had my after photos yet as only just finished Chemo. Just made me think maybe I should have one done before rads, Rather than after, will phone my bcn !
I suffered a very bad burn from Taxotere and was taken into hospital isolation with it as my immunity had packed in. The burn and subsequent blistering did not emerge until over a week after I’d had the treatment, so they were suspicious it could be something else and they had to take samples for a culture. It was spreading across the back of my hand and up my arm and the blistering was so bad they had to keep expressing the fluid, after this the blisters would fill up again and get even bigger. It was like something from a horrible sci-fi movie. 5 days after I was taken into hospital I was asked if I would agree to have it photographed, also if the photos could be used for someone to write a paper on severe chemo burns for one of the oncology journals.
On the few occasions I saw my surgeon he asked if it was OK for him to have a student with him as he is an honorary tutor of breast surgery. I was also asked if I would be happy to be interviewed by 1st year med students about my experiences when I was having chemo.
Hi Yes I’ve had mine snapped a few times by the surgeon-not sure if its has been to show other women-I said that would be fine-or for him to see the recon at each stage.
I had my breasts photographed by the radiography planners. I think it was for their benefit, rather than for the wider world. They said it was for comparison purposes. In no way would the photographs end up on the “Top Shelf”… more likely to be published in “Freaks R Us” LOL!
I was snapped before my reduction and uplift on right breast in june this year after having lumpectomy and wle to left breast sept 07, i was happy to do this as i was shown pics of reduction /uplift which helped me to make up my mind as i really wasn’t sure about the operation but was getting quite depressed about the difference in size which was getting more obvious as time went by so it really helped me and hopefully my pics might be of help to other women.

I have two lots of medical photos taken so far. One following my WLE and then a further set taken prior ro MX and reconstruction. I assume that I shall have some post-op ones taken at some point too. I signed to say that they could be used too.
I had mine photographed for a radiotherapy trial, but said they could be used for anything. Will have mine taken every year for 10 years!
The only question have is ‘why did I smile?’
love debs xxx
I had mine taken before surgery once all the drawings had been done. I will agree for after shot as well. I’m all for it as photos helped me make decsions at the start!
Yes Debs ‘why do we smile’
Interesting thread this one! Never been suggested to me at any stage during treatment (have had 2 WLE and just started chemo) but I’ve been taking my own pictures to remind me how far I’ve come. Only prob is all the pics are still on my phone so have to be careful not to let anyone scroll through them!

yes, ive had my breast photos done for clinical purposes. They are all done ‘headless’ - they will be shown to women who have just been dx with bc who are undergoing surgery. I saw some photos before i had my surgery (wle), and they were really helpful.
