I am due to have a Hickman Line inserted on Thursday, followed by my first dose of FEC. Is this proceedure OK or should I opt for sedation?
Thanks

Hi Tracey
I had a Hickman & FEC for the first time a month ago.
To be honest, it was a walk in the park!
The staff were lovely, and excepting the local (like the stuuf you get at the dentist), it didn’t hurt at all. I opted for no sedation, as I didn’t want there to be anything else that might react with my FEC and make me feel worse.
If you’re nervous then go ahead and ask for a pre-med, but if you’re not too fazed, then go for it girl!
Good luck, Rebecca
Thanks Mum2Two! Hope you don’t mind me asking, How old are you and how old are your children?
Tracey
Hi Tracey
I’m 40, and my babies are 2yrs & 7 months, so they keep me well on my toes!
Hi Tracey,
I had my hickman line put in a week ago before my 2nd AC treatment. I got a local as well and was no bother.
I flush it through every day myself which is simple enough once shown how. I just do it every day after I shower.
I am told I will have mine until treatment finished. I am due to have 6 AC treatments in total.
Hi Mum2Two
It must be hard for you with 2 very young children? Mine are 12 and 7, so they are a bit more self sufficient! I am going in for Hickman Line inserted followed by first FEC tomorrow!
Love Tracey
Hi Tracey
What did you decide about a pre-med?
My littles are the reason I get out of bed in the morning, but on the tougher day (day 3-5 post chemo), it’s tough having people who need so much from you
Will be thinking of you tomorrow, you’ll be fine & I’ll be looking out for you

I’m going to try without pre-med, thanks
Tracey xx
