Head lumps

Hi all, I have secondary breast cancer in my lungs. I have 4 or 5 small lumps on my head. my onc doesn’t know what they are, does anyone else have these?

Thanks
Lilibet

Hi Lilibet…I wonder if they might possibly be skin mets? I think it’s not that unusual to find them on the scalp. Or a reaction from any chemo you’re having or have had recently? Hope your treatment’s going well.
Belinda.

Hi, Belinda, I have had the ice cap on my previous chemo last year, I was wondering if it was anything to do with that?

Treatment not too good at the moment first lot of chemo hasn’t worked so about to try a different one.

Hope you are ok.

Good Luck with the next chemo Lilibet…I hope you get a much better response from it.

Lilibet - they are almost definitely skin mets - I have them on my scalp too - they are quite rare and only I of the oncs on my team recognised them - and she was Spanish and didn’t know the English word (called them cutanide or letalide). Indicates not to use cold cap on this set of chemo (if you are). After 5 doxys most of mine have gone now, or flattened almost completely, but a couple are hanging on. I also have 1 on my neck and 1 in one armpit. Howver it looks like doxy has stopped working for me now :frowning:

My Mum had a couple on her scalp. she has mets to the lung. Nobody told us what they were.

Thanks for your help, do they cause any problems?

Lilibet

haven’t caused me any probs - no itches, no pain, no nothing - and are a reasonably visible indicator to me of response to chemo or not - e.g CT says inside lumps are shrinking, they shrink. Ct now less good (oops), I have a new couple I found today etc…

Nothing to do with brain - they are brought to the skin (wherever) by the blood. There are a lot of capillaries in the scalp, it is a fessible place for them to settle.
Don’t worry, there is a blood brain barrier - you could get it in your brain like any of us, but I don’t think these mets make it any more or less likely at all!
NB terminology - I was told mine are subcutaneous mets - not sure if this is the same as skin mets or not, but I think so

glad your chemo is having success! mine needs some improvement

Thanxs for the info, you have put my mind at rest.

Hope you have more success with your chemo.

I don’t suppose you have any miracle cures for the awful feelings I get with the steroids, I feel totally spaced out as though I am in someone else body, it feels awful and gets me down.

Anyone got any ideas ?
