Heavy bleeding letrozole

Hello
Not visited forum for a while, but recently changed drugs and be grateful if anyone has similar experience:
I have started on letrozole after stopping 5 yrs tamoxifen Dec '13. The delay was to investigate bleeding and do further blood tests to establish menopausal status. I know these can be unreliable, but have had several now and all results indicate strongly post-menopausal. Trams-bag scans and hysteroscopy samples showed no malignancy or hyperplasia. However, started very heavy bleeding on tues, is getting heavier. Spoke to gynae nurse consultant- advised to see if stops and call if hasn’t by start of next wk. I noted that a possible rare-ish side effect of the Adcal ( calcium + vit d) I have also started is vaginal bleeding, but nurse wasn’t sure about that. I have tried to be brief- hope that makes sense. Just wondering if anyone has had similar? C

Oh dear, predictive text and my clumsy fingers- that should be trans-vag scans!

Should also prob have added - periods stopped during chemo, I was 37, didn’t resume apart from few ad hoc bleeds in past 5 years , thickened lining investigated in hospital a few years ago- was fine- am now 43

Just refreshing

Have been taking Letrozole for 8 months and have had a little bleeding on a few occasions only, so haven’t got your problem.

Hot flushes and vaginal dryness along with painful hands and fingers are the main side effects I have.

Thanks for your reply Rosiecliff,
Yes, I find the hot flushes worse now than on tamoxifen and getting some aching too. I am again experiencing heavy bleeding, just like a period, two months after last one. It feels quite odd, as has been established I am post-menopausal, and only had a few episodes of bleeding while on tamoxifen. Speaking to nurse next week…

Hi, I had to have another blood test three months after starting letrozole to make sure I was still post menopausal. Oncologist said that letrolzole can sometimes kick start the ovaries back into action. X

Hi Stressy Messy
Thanks for your post. Returned from first Zoladex implant appt today - your experience was first time I had heard that, but is exactly what team think has happened with me, hence starting on Zoladex.( An odd feeling having to do pregnancy test after recent tests showed I was ‘very post-menopausal’… Negative!) I had hoped to give myself the injections after the first one, but have knocked that idea on the head after today! I am wondering about asking about the three monthly implants once I’ve had a few months in the four weekly. I hope you are getting on ok with Letrizole and finding the SEs manageable. Cx
