Heavy Period/Bleeding

Another of My Experiences whilst undergoing chemo.

When this happened to me I tried searching online for some reassurance as I wasn’t sure the best course of action. It was 3am. Why do these things always seem to be worse during the night when there doesn’t seem to be anyone to talk to.

About 3 days after my first cycle of FEC my period started, this wasn’t a problem. The problem was that as the days passed it didn’t let up, it got heavier, I was using double protection and having to change every 60 minutes. To me, it was not the same as a regular period. Along with the side effects of chemo this addition was really not wanted!

In the end I made a trip to A&E who prescribed norethisterone which did stop the flow within a day. Since then I have been having a monthly injection called Zoladex which stopped my period completely.

I’m not an expert but if you wanted to know more you could check here cancerbackup.org.uk/Treatments/Hormonaltherapies/Individualhormonaltherapies/GoserelinBreast

I would say don’t suffer in silence, if you have the same experience talk to your GP or another healthcare professional as there is something that can be done about it.

I hope this information helps someone else out there.
