Heightened sensitivity

Hi everyone 

First up Happy New Year.

I am almost 3 weeks post DIEP flap reconstruction and I’m doing well, the consultants are pleased.The top of my left breast (the reconstructed one) and the middle of my tummy, just above my new reconstructed belly button is very sensitive to touch, to the extent that it’s painful.

I was wondering if heightened sensitivity is common post surgery? How long does it take to settle down and feel normal?

Hi Nicolad,
Glad to hear it’s gone well. Most likely it’s the nerves healing & there can be some odd sensations such as itching or changed sensitivity which usually resolves.
Obviously, you’ll get it checked out if it’s a worry for you.
