Just want to say hello and start this journey with you all. I am just diagnosed couple of weeks ago and finding this all so so difficult to process, so much info coming at me, appointments and mostly big decisions to be made in such a short time. Whoa it is a lot ! Also want to send love and strength to all here !!!
Welcome to the shitty titty club. I think a lot of us have found that the time between when you’re diagnosed & when you start treatment is one of the most emotionally challenging periods. Be kind to yourself & bring a notebook to every appointment because there’s so much to take in… there’s loads of support on here, so you’ve found your way to a great place.
So you picked the short straw too! It’s a hard road with lots of confusion, doubt, tears &pain BUT there are so many of us going through the same thing so you will never be alone. Don’t ever think you are asking too many questions & please ask for help as soon as you need it. Try to stay active as your mind will go to unwanted places when vacant & please dont think you need to be positive all the time. Give yourself some slack & let it all out. In 3 months time you’ll feel like a breast cancer pro. Best of luck, we are all behind you xx
Hi Kartoffel,
Yes had a notebook for q n a’s from the start! Really helps as brain fog, which i have never experienced before , is a real hinderence at times so the preparation and a space to record answers is essential! Now have a week to decide reconstruct or not. Big decision in a short time. Find time is distorted. Minutes like hours when alone and everything moving so fast! Yes hope that once i have a plan i can kinda settle a bit. How are you???
Thank you so much for replying! I really appreciate it! I will have mastectomy and possibly reconstruction, do you have any experience in either of these experiences? So tough making decisions, blessed with oodles of family love and support yet came here as no one who has had C thankfully x strength and love !
Hi beks. Sorry, cant help on the masectomy ss i was lucky enough only to need a lumpectomy. No cancer history in my family either so its all a bit of a leap into the unknown. There are plenty of women in your position on this site so you will get lots of help. Just try to take it one step at a time as all the info can be overwhelming & make decisions difficult. When is your scheduled sugery? Best wishes
I had a double mastectomy with implant reconstruction mid May. Whilst I have had discomfort, I’ve not had pain, happy to answer questions if you are considering an implant x
How are you doing tofay?
Hi there, I’m new to the forum and diagnosed just over a month ago with er grade 2 her2 negative, in breast and lymph node. I had surgery last week round block mammoplasty and removal of nodes in that area and so far recovery seems to be going well. As many other members here have commented it’s the waiting in between appointments that is one of the hardest things to manage.
All staff involved have been so supportive and reassuring even when the news is not what you want to hear, trust in your team and stay positive where possible.
My husband has come to every appointment with me not only for support but also to keep notes so we can discuss information later when I’ve been able to process it. I would definitely recommend having a consistent person with you at appointments and or making notes.
Good luck on your journey.
