Hello, Anyone from North East about?

Hi daisyleaf
I’m at the QE. Am meeting the onc in a couple of weeks after my clearance. Have node involvement so it is good to know they are good as I will need them to be. Debx

lol Theresa, you sound positively giddy : D It must be such an enormous relief after all this waiting, you enjoy it!

Monica, glad everything went okay for you and that you’re home again. Enjoy your takeaway (jealous!)

I am at the QE.

I’ll be meeting the chemo team for the first time on Monday Deb, starting treatment on Wednesday. So far I can’t fault the QE, everything and everyone I’ve been in contact with has been first class. The new surgery wing is like a hotel! I know that Monica has only good things to say about the treatment she has received there, which is really reassuring.

Have you had your surgery yet Deb? How are you getting on?

Krissy - glad to hear you’ve got your prosthesis sorted out. My problem is it doesn’t go far enough around at the side! Perhaps we could swap?!

I really do just want to get on with chemo now. I just keep thinking if we start now it’ll all be over before christmas. Everyone is rallying around to make sure I get plenty of rest in the few days after treatment, so I’m looking forward to a few days in bed ; )

Hi Wendy
I agree there is somethiing very travel lodge about the surgery centre. I had a breast reduction mammoplasty and snb 3 weeks ago. They have all been very good. I can imagine that my surgeon isn’t everyones cup of tea but I find him strangely reassuring. It took me along time to get over the aneasthetic (sp?) but the wound is healing ok. Am not looking forward to the clearance but as they have decided I need to stay overnight am quite looking forward to the late evening hot chocolate they serve and will be there for fish and chips with mushy peas on Friday, yum.

Have you fully recovered from your op? Do you know what chemo you are getting?
Take care
deb

Hi is anyone having treatment at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough? x

Good afternoon everyone

Hope you are all well. Its a nice sunny day here in Blyth.

Monica - I’m so pleased you had your op and everything is okay. (My turn for takeout tonight)

Wendy - The prosthesis swap sounds ideal :-))

Theresa - That is brilliant news. I am so happy for you. I bet you feel so much better now. Great news.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Take care

Krissy xx

Deb, I’m intrigued as to who your consultant is (presuming surgeon, and presuming same as mine, as I know some people have had reservations…but I’ve known him for 13 years now and he has been so great with me, my oh and even my daughter) can’t put people’s names up here - does his surname start with a B?
sorry for ‘games’, just intrigued…
I am still very happy with the QE, staff at all levels have been brilliant
wishing everyone well

Hi Monica
No it begins with a C. The nurses on the surgical ward say he is very particular about his patients- will not allow district nurses to change dressings, if it is suggested he will “cut their heads off”. Junior doc v afraid- say he is old school and they are not to talk to him if he is unhappy.( but they all said he was an excellent surgeon)
I like him but was taken aback when he suggested a breast reduction on my bc side when removing the lump and that in the future I could have the other side done too. “Then you never know you could get sommething good out of this” Hmm! I’m not sure whether that was quite how I was seeing it.
Other than that the treatment so far has been very good and the bcn’s are very understanding. Deb

well thats a bit bizarre
been told my chap is arrogant with some staff, but bcn’s love him and so do I!!
good luck with your treatment
hope we can all meet up sometime soon

That would be nice.dx

Hi me*&*30 - Not had full treatment at James Cook but just finished 4 weeks of rads. Think Richo who you will find on some of the other sites has been receiving her treatment there. I found rads staff to be very friendly and caring. If you are going to have your treatment there that you have some sessions at the Holistic centre. I had 6 sessions of Reiki which really helped me, it is free to cancer patients being treated by one of their consultants. Good luck Marli x

Hello me*&*30

Have had/having all my treatment at James Cook. Masectomy in Dec, just had last chemo on Thurs and should start rads in June, having herceptin, and femera. It is a wonderful reassuring place, the staff are really good.

As Marli said, the holistic centre is really good, I got my bra’s sorted with bra lady, wig sorted with wig man, and headscarfes etc with the headstrong team.

What treatment are you having? Happy to help with any questions if I can.

Good luck and keep in touch, Anne x

Hi Anne
so pleased for you that chemo is over, in a couple of weeks, when you get past the 3 week cycle period, you are really going to start feeling better - I forgot how good I could feel, and its glorious to come through it
enjoy enjoy enjoy

Thanks Richo and Marli!
I would definitely like to try Reiki, I need all the help I can get to try and relax lately!
I have had a WLE and my nodes were clear. I’m Triple Negative so I am going to have chemo, then radio at James Cook… no herceptin or tamoxifen for me, which is scaring me a lot :0(
I am meeting the doctor next week to find out what is going to happen, starting chemo the following week I think.

Hi Emma - You could pop into the Holistic Centre and speak to someone about the best treatments for you, I found them very kind and helpful. They do a number of different ones, the centre manager recommended reiki to help with feeling tired after chemo. Had one on a Thursday morning for six sessions before my rads and I feel they helped me cope. It is a real oasis of calm. Keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. Marli x

Hi - I got a letter yesterday about BCC sessions in Newcastle… I think Wendy might have got one too as they now have our details because of signing up for the Sept event… thought i would mention it here as one is coming up very soon…

They are going to be held at The Thistle Hotel Newcastle (opposite Newcastle Central Station) from 1pm - 3pm… and you need to phone 0845 077 1893 or email <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%6e%72%63%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%6e%72%63%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>

Some of the topics are similar to workshops at the younger women event me and Wendy are going to - so I thought they might be of interest to those of you who were sad they were unable to go to that due to the age limit…

I even thought it might be nice if several of us ending going to them perhaps we could meet up earlier before the sessions for lunch or coffee etc…?

Theresa x

Hmm typical just checked with Nigel and he is in London on May 25th… but going back to my idea - I could meet up for a coffee / lunch with people before the session… (I have to be back for David getting home from school… he goes to special school so I have to be here for the minibus at 3.30pm…)

Theresa x

I will pop into the Holistic Centre next week, I will be meeting my Oncologist too.

I am absolutely dreading starting the chemo, but wanting to get started asap all at the same time?!?!

Are any of you going to the Younger Womens Forum in Newcastle on 17 & 18 Sept?

Emma x

Hi have signed up but will be mid chemo by then so I don’t know if I will actually make it.But you never know. Debx
