This is my first time posting on this forum and i am hoping it will be one of many! I’ve finally come out of my shell to speak more openly about my diagnosis.
I am 32 and got diagnosed with breast cancer last month and have now been given a date for my mastectomy in May 2022 (had sentinel node biopsy last week).
It has been a rollercoaster of a journey for me with plenty of emotions especially as i was planning my wedding in July. I have just started fertility preservation which will then lead up to the mastectomy.
Feeling very nervous about the surgery and whether i will be fit enough for my wedding in July or if this would need to be post-poned.
Would love to hear about post surgery experiences!
@Krupa I’m sorry you are going through all of this. To give you some idea I had a mastectomy three weeks ago today and am healing well. Still numb but had no pain whatsoever. We are all different and healing in different time frames but I wish you well. It’s natural to be frightening if surgery particularly if you’ve not had a general anaesthetic before but once it is done it will be a huge relief. Take care. X
I just wanted to share my positive experience. I had a double mastectomy with implant reconstruction early January. By early March I was back at work and had started running again. I would consider myself averagely fit and I have found recovery fine. The worst bit is the drains and once they’re out it’s fine. I would recommend staying active, I walked lots the first few weeks and I think it helped.
Getting breast cancer young is rubbish. I am 36. The one advantage is its quicker to recover from treatment and surgery.
