Hello I’m new to the forum. I am the carer for my mum (80 years old) who has recently been diagnosed with LCIS breast cancer and awaiting a plan for treatment. Very overwhelmed with all the appointments but we are learning everyday.
Welcome @wrenn. I’m very sorry that your mother has a new issue to face but she, via you, will find a lot of support through the forum. I was my mother’s carer from her late 80s but she lived with dementia so there were different challenges we had to navigate but I do understand the sense of responsibility you must feel towards your lovely Mum. An LCIS means it hasn’t become invasive which is good news and, depending on its size and grade, could potentially be left and controlled by drugs. Generally though, it is best to remove and analyse the lump for the full picture. How is your mother feeling about her situation? At 80 she may be in the generation that thinks any form of cancer diagnosis means the Big C which has inevitable consequences but breast cancer is eminently treatable these days particularly if Stage 0 which is what LCIS is. May I also recommend that she or you have a chat with the wonderful Breast Cancer Now nurses on 0808 800 6000 if you want to talk through any aspect of the recent diagnosis. Good luck with the treatment, let us know how you’re both getting on.
