Help! Desperately looking for a recommended reconstructive plastic surgeon.

Hello All,

This is my first post.

6 weeks ago I was diagniosed with insitu ductal invasive carcinoma. 3 weeks later I was futher diagnosed with non-invasive DCIS in both breasts.
As a result I am due to have a bi-lateral masectomy with immediate reconstruction. As I’m very slight I have been told that I will have to use implants.
I went to see my (NHS) alloted plastic surgeon a week ago and was left feeling utterly distraught with the quality of his previous work. I thought it was unexceptable and certainly not what I was expecting to see.
So I am now in a desperate rush to find a plastic surgeon whose previous results have been good and whose patients are happy with the result of their work.
I would dearly love to hear from anyone who has had bi-lateral reconstructive surgery using implants and would recommend their plastic surgeon.
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Clare.

hi Cbirch

Sorry that you have to join us - it might help us help you if you told us whereabouts in the UK you are? North? East? West? South? South East? South West?

You could of course, if you are really unhappy but dont want to wait for fear of the cancer spreading, have the mastectomies and have the reconstruction later having had time to look for a surgeon whose work you trust? Not ideal I know but one solution maybe?

I wish you all the best in your search

Best wishes and virtual hugs

Hello… sorry for my delayed response. I live in North West London. I am prepared to travel if need be. It seems from my visit to The hospital that it is some what difficult transferring to another. how ever i still want to make sure that I am confident about the person working on me… thank you for advice so far. would be great to hear from other women who have had the same procedure and were happy with their surgeons.

Hi ther Cbirch
I had immediate reconstruction with implant and even the oncologist at the hospital where I had my rads done commented on what a good job my surgeon at a different hospital had done. We are not allowed to name names ere but please feel free to message me if you wish.

Clare - I’ve sent you a pm. - Forgot to say that I’m very happy with my result and I’ve also had various professionals comment on what a good job my surgeon made.

Hi,this article is a bit old but might give you some ideas, especially as you have not replied about which area you live in yet and need a quick answer. It gives someone’s top 10 recon doctors in the country and if you read the comments below the article, some readers have offered others. (edited by moderator) is in my area and I have only heard wonderful comments at his completed work from people who have been seen by him and the other team. They do( I believe) over 200 a month so very experienced and covers London and Essex. Good luck Lily x

CBIRCH - it might be worth considering a hospital that has an oncoplast - afaik these are surgeons who specialise in getting the best cosmetic result as well as treating the cancer. I believe Charing Cross have an oncoplast http://www.oncoplasticbreast.com/female-breast-surgeon.htm, you can ask for your treatment to be transferred there if you want to.

CBIRCH the Marsden has oncoplastic surgeons and very good plastic surgeons. I had my delayed reconstruction 2 weeks ago and am delighted with the results. I’m happy to give you some names, but am not allowed to post names on the public forum. PM me if you want

Thank you everyone who has responded to my question. I have had an amazing response also from other avenues. I now feel much more positive and a clear picture is appearing for me. Hopefully on Thursday, when I see my surgeon, I can ask him what is possible with regards to changing my plastic surgeon…phew !!! XX
