Help drainage question

Hi All

I had a right mx on the 8th Sept,my surgeon has said he want my drain in until he sees me on the 24th, I am still producing around 150/200mls of fluid a day, has anybody had this happen to them, all I read about is drains in about 2/5 days, I am really worried about what happens if the fluid amount does not go down will I have to keep the drain in longer, if they remove it will it build up and make my arm swell, its sore at the moment with the drain in

Will be grateful for any advice out there.

Hi Ria2056,

i had left mx in late oct 2013 had three drains in and came home with one after 5 days the surgeon said they wouldent leave it in more than ten days as there was a increased risk to infection so had it removed after ten days although i was still getting a lot of fluid build up . had seroma drained twice 600mls in the last one but better than getting a infection .i would have a word with your bc nurse and ask why your surgeon wants to leave drain in for that long . dont worry though it doesent hurt when they are removed .
