Hi all
I e been having treatment for DCIS - I’ve had a lumpectomy and finished 5 days of radiotherapy on Friday.
At the moment I feel ok physically but having had to come off HRT I’m having hot flushes, night sweats which leads to disturbed sleep and that’s causing anxiety. I’m thinking of trying some sage tablets. I knows there’s a risk with the phytoestrogens but I’m getting desperate. Anyone else tried it?
I understand how difficult and frustrating this must be for you. I am sorry that you are going through this. However please check with your medical team before taking any medication or tablets . Do look into the option of trying a cooling/ temperature control blanket. It might help a bit with the hot flashes. Sending you strength and healing vibes.
Hi Catmum
I take Gabapentin for hot flushes, after trying all non prescription alternatives. Doesn’t interfere with my treatment and is highly effective.
How does it make you feel? Any side effects? Does it help anxiety and sleep?
I felt a bit zonked when I started the meds. That soon passed. Stopped the night sweats. No side effects now. No slow release tablets, so needs taking 3 times a day but well worth the inconvenience. Good luck.
First check with your doctor, but I have found that a product called “Nerve Tonic” which is very similar to “Calm” works wonders. It is made up of magnesium and is very inexpensive on Amazon. The nerve tonic pills melt on your tongue and seem to calm me enough to go back to sleep when I wake up too early. Magnesium is also good for muscles and the digestive system. I can’t recall what I did for the hot flashes during the first time with cancer, but I really recall the sleep issues almost putting me over the edge. When the nerve tonic wasn’t enough, I would use Ativan on an as needed basis. It too helps with sleep and anxiety.
