HELP! I Need Some Sleep! Any Tips Please!

It depends on what’s keeping you awake or waking you up. I find I can usually doze off eventually, but once I’ve woken up for yet another hot flush (not a drowning, fortunately) I just can’t get back to sleep. So was thinking that if I can deal with the flushes, that might stop me waking up. So I’ll try the low-dose anti-ds next time I go to my GP. I’ve got Temazepam but I’m too scared to take them as I don’t want to end up dependent!

hi choccie
i`ve been given temazepam try to take 1 a week am so feed up with not sleeping have also tryed kalms but nogood but will try again aslo got anti-his(phenergan)was very naughty and feel quilty because i took 3 temazepam in 1 week will try and take 1 a week.had 3 fec yesterday and feeling sick today might be the steriods,

I have acquired my box of Penergan and notice that you should not drink alcohol whilst taking it “because it can affect the way the medicine works”. Has anyone done so, and if yes, what happened?

Thanks

Sorry, just answered my own question, it will make you more sleepy! Yippee!!!

Thought I’d throw this into the mix.

In 1977 I gave my very active, didn’t like to have a daytime sleep, daughter of 11 months one dose (can’t remember how many milligrams) of Phenergan. We were travelling from Melbourne (Australia) to London Heathrow, and then on to Christchurch Dorset.

Phenergan made her hyperactive!!! That trip was the trip from hell -she was awake for 36 hours door to door. She wanted to be on the go all through the flying time and screamed and cried when she couldn’t.

Just a thought -maybe it’s not for everyone.

Tonight could be quite interesting!

1 pint of London Pride + 1 Temazepam = a sleep-filled night.

Went to bed at 10pm, woke up at 5.30, dozed off again until about 8.

WONDERFUL!

choccie. go girl am going to take 1 tonight had 2 nights of crap sleep awake every hour .
daisy girl.how did the penergan work?hope you had a good night sleep.

Queenie, I bottled out as had a bit to drink!!! Popped a couple of Ibuprofen at about 2.30am and went back to sleep within the hour, so not feeling too bad today.

Will keep you posted!

I took a Zopiclone last night. The SE’s from TAX were driving me crazy. Still woke up a few times to go to the loo, but managed to get back to sleep. It certainly didn’t knock me out.
GP only prescribed 14 because they can be addictive.
Think I might try the Phenergen next.Unfortunately i’m right off alcohol at the moment.

Quick update on the Phenergan. I took 1 25mg tab and had a good night, woke up a couple of times but went back to sleep without a problem, I only had 1 large glass of wine.

DG, sounds like you have a sensible remedy. Didn’t take anything last night but was awake a lot, my brain wouldn’t stop. Bit of a pain as I had a very long day with work and travelling there and back (160 miles round trip and a full day) so needed a decent kip. Never mind, will indulge in the drug of choice this evening followed by paracetamol and a very quiet room on Saturday…

morning all (yes it is!!!)have been realy good this week have not taking anything since sunday when i took a temazepam.i cant say they have been easy on/off all night.uhlike you choccie iam off work so i hpoe all went well, daisy girl.i had weird dreams so have not tryed phenergan not to sure if it was connected with the tab`s.can you tell what Zopiclone is slenda and hpe you have had a few goog nights.norberte hope the migraine has gone not nice.hope you have goog nights to.

Hi to all you lovely IA ladies… i,m new to this forum site but so glad I came across it  I beg you to make me an official DAMN THATS ANOTHER NIGHT WITH NO SLEEP YAWN!! CLUB! member!!!
9 months now post op thought I was the only person suffering long term effects of BC (some friends just dont want to hear about it anymore so I dont mention it now or expect anyone else too…i,ve muddled through since R/Therapy finished can almost hear the comments Get over it and get back to work! so maybe a tad paranoid actually i,m not, that comment was said… tho not in my presence… was heartbroken when I was told as it came from a colleague where I work, very insensitive but it did make me close up on myself only 2 weeks after R/therapy finished :frowning: )
I,ve always been a bit higgledepiggledy with sleep and my job does,nt help (Nurse) 7am start for 12 hrs a shift and now after BC my sleeping has suffered bigtime! I,m taking Letrozole and I know its a side effect tho knowing does,nt help it just seems to make it worse… so yes I can sympathize with each and everyone of you Ladies who are in the same position… cant sleep then wake up when you feel as if you have just dropped off cant get back to sleep when you do wake up be it for the loo or another dreaded sweat and your head manages to find everything and nothing to go over a million times…the list goes on, i,ve tried nightnurse liquid when i,ve got a shift the next day but its not a long term solution and sometimes does,nt work just leaves you feeling crappy for the rest of the night…I also got some Zopiclone from my Dr but as yet hav,nt tried it… in case it does,nt work… How sad is that!! I think the best thing I,ve found is to get up and take yourself out of the situation thats causing you stress for an hour. Its better than tossing and turning and you would,nt be sleeping anyway so a cuppa and watch a bit of tv can help a bit! But not always as i,ve found when I,m still sat having my 3rd cuppa and its fastly approaching 6.00am and time to get a shower for work… ANY ADVICE WOULD BE WELCOME but i,ve come to the assumption that if were all feeling like it and we,ve all tried the remedies and non of them work that efficiently then the very exclusive 2am insomniacs club seems a very tempting offer  my love to all you brave lovely ladies who like myself have found its not always the cancer thats the problem its everything that goes with it bless you all keep your heads up high we,ve been there and done it albeit not quite with the smoothness we,d like but very special people all the same…See you at 2 xxxx Doz

At last I asked my GP today whether she thought it was OK to take Phenergan as a sedative. She said yes but it’s a very old-fashioned anti-histamine, usually used for rashes or travel sickness, to which I replied that probably the reason it’s now considered old-fashioned is because of its sedative effect. Much like the amitriptyline she’s prescribed for me to help me sleep - not much use as an anti-depressant but it helps you sleep.
Anyway, she confirmed there is no reason not to take it with hormone blocking therapies like tamoxifen and zoladex, nor is it addictive like Zopiclone and that family of sleeping pills, so you won’t get withdrawal symptoms, but she said it can have a cumulative effect, so if you take it every night you can end up very doped up. Therefore it’s best to only use it occasionally.
She must hate having me as a patient!

I will sometimes take an antihistamine tablet if I have gone for 2 or 3 consecutive nights without sleep. I’ve also tried the herbal remedy Valerian which is quite good. Somebody I know who did night shifts in a local care home put me on to that, she used it if she couldn’t get to sleep during the day.

Hi Everyone!

Cheshire, it is good that you GP had OK’d Phenergan with Tam, I must admit I hadn’t given it a thought. My concern was taking it if you have a drink. Apparently this is because both Phen & alcohol slow down your breathing and I was a bit concerned that I might stop breathing in the night and that would be that… gone through 9 months of hell only to snuff it taking an antihistamine! A couple of drinks should not cause any probs according to what I read.

I had my acupuncture session today and she stuck pins in me to help me sleep, so I am looking forward to a good night!

Will keep you posted
