Help needed - in a panic again!

Hi All

I finished all treatment 16 months ago and at 6 month check with onc four weeks ago he said I was fine. Phew I Thought.

ANyway then I started getting on and off twingy pain in my rib and stressed about it so much I ended up with it all over! I rang the BCN and she said she would get me an appointment with the radiotherapy consultant as it sounds like post radio pain.

I went to see him yesterday and he did a thorough examination and said all was fine and he thought it was pain caused by radio damage and not to worry. HOWEVER . . … he then said I will do a chest x ray just to be 100% but i dont expect to find anything as the pain would be much worse and constant if it were anything to get concerned about.

I am now hysterical questioning why he sent me for an x ray when he seemed so sure it was nothing.

Wont have results for “about a week”!!! Anyone been offered tests like this after they said they didnt really need them?

Love to all

Hi Alise,
I think he is just making absolutely sure - this way there will be no doubts. If you hadn’t had the x ray and someone mentioned it later, you’d always have that niggle, but this way you won’t.

Hi Alise
After I had finished all my treatment I then went on to have a brain scan because I was getting dizzy seplls, a bone scan because I was getting leg pain, an x-ray for other pains … the point I am trying to make is that I think they sometimes do these tests more to put your mind at ease than the fact that they think they are going to find anything. Telling you they think it is nothing is not as good as showing you that it is nothing if you know what I mean.
Please try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know).

Hi Alise,

I couldn’t agree more with quisie and Karen, I would only add that hospitals are so frightened by litigation that they will sometimes want to cover all angles. I too was not fully reassured that a pain in my arm was probably nothing to worry about because secondaries tend to go to big bone rather than limbs. I wasn’t convinced until I knew the results of the bone scan were clear.

I hope that the week passes quickly for you, have a good weekend
Carol

Thank you all for replying.

They rang me today from the hospital and I nearly passed out when they said who they were! ANyway the chest x ray was all clear so I was so so relieved . Why do they put us through this???

Love to all

Hi Alise,
Good news! I am really pleased for you. I supposed that’s one down to one of life’s experiences (Although one we do not need!).
Take care
Carol
