Help re:ct scan

Feeling a bit nervous ladies, just got my appointment for my ct scan that the onc wanted me to have before he saw me again on the 14/5. Enclosed in the envelope was a blood form for me to go and get my cretannine (terrible spelling, but its something to do in the renal area), my question is why? Not had this before or is this just a case of different hospitals follow different protocols.

p.s the ct is to see if the aromasin is working as my jan scan showed progression hence the change in meds.

Hi

I have had a similar thing happen to me, I have had a CT scan in the past but the next one is due on the 24th, they have included the pelvic area and sent me a drink to take which I didn’t understand.

My advice is phone your onc or Breast Cancer Nurse and get a proper explanation for in, it may just put your mind at ease a bit.

I had a CT scan recently - no food or drink for four hours previously, then 2 litres of a special drink to take in just before the scan. The drink contains a particular form of dye that helps to identify problems in the intestines. The previous scan I only had the IV injected dye.

Thanks Diane and Phoebe,

My nerves got the best of me and I rang and found out that apparently it is protocol to do the blood test to check that the kidneys are functioning well and then they can safely do the dye otherwise some times the dye can cause the patient to go into kidney failure…feel a bit better but it is another needle stick.
