Hi guys I went for my 3rd FEC today actually feeling quite well. but my onc said my blood count was a little low. So to give my body a rest for a week. Is there anyone out there that has had the same? and can give any advice on diet tips etc to help. A little disappointed as it would have been my half way mark.
best wishes to all of you guys thank you Shirley
Hi Shirley
I have done 6FEC and when i had my second FEC my white blood cell was low so i was given a white blood cell booster ( an injection ) 24 hours after chemo. I have had 5 booster since. I wonder why they did not give you one?
In terms of food, I was told by my dr nothing could help really. But i have tried to drink some soups made from beef bones. I was also taking Manuka Honey to boost my immune system…
Hope this helps and hope your FEC goes well
take care

Hi,
Just wanted to echo what Avonlea said about injections post chemo. I still have an open wound from surgery (it opened the day after my first FEC)so my Onc prescribed a white blood cell booster injection (called GCSF) to be given 24 hours after each chemo to boost my white blood cells and thus minimise the risk of an infection.
I went for a blood test today, 9 days post 5th FEC, as I had to go to the dentists and the Chemo unit wanted to check my bloods first, my bloods were fine and given the fact that days 10 -14 post FEC are supposedly your lowest immunity it seems the GCSF really works.
Perhaps when you see your Onc when you go back for your third FEC you should ask him about having the GCSF after your remaining FECs.
Good luck, x
Hi ladies
Thank you so much for your comments and getting back to me so quickly. My onc told me by body needed a rest and to come back in a week. He said not to worry its normal sometimes. But its good to get some feedback from you guys. As the conversation can be quite limited with the language problem. I can speak a little Spanish enough to get by, but not fluent. So the information I get is very basic. So Im always on this site to gain more.
Have a good weekend Shirley
