Help to go flat

Hello everyone,

This is my first time using this sight and would really appreciate your help please.

I had a single mastectomy about 15 years ago and at the time was offered reconstructive surgery which I declined because I didn’t want any additional surgery. I really wish I had had the other breast removed at the same time but this was not given as an option. I have asked several times since then and have always been told that I can’t have it done because they don’t want to remove healthy tissue and that I might regret it. It has really affected my self confidence over the years and I know I would be much happier to go flat but I’m unable to find a doctor that will approve this and refer me to a surgeon. Is there anyone else who has been through the same experience and if so could I please ask how you were able to get the removal surgery approved?

Thank you so much for your help in advance!

Hi @Dolphins  - welcome to this forum, I hope you will find some help to your query. I know I have read about others on here who have managed to persuade their surgeon to remove the other breast, so it might be worth you doing a search across the forum. The search box is just above this message, but make sure you change the grey box on the left of the search box to “forum” so it searches all boards, not just surgery. From memory I think some people mentioned having to see perhaps a psychiatrist to make sure that is what they wanted. I had a right mastectomy and did ask about a double, but was given the same answers you were - and I didn’t follow it up.

You might also want to call the nurses on here, number at the top of the page, and they may know more about how to get the other breast removed. I really hope you find some answers and wish you all the best. Evie xx
