Help with Tamoxifen and Zoladex Please

Help with Tamoxifen and Zoladex Please Was wondering if any one can help me i was told at first that i would be on Tamoxifen for 5 years but i have read on here that alot of women only have Tamoxifen for a few years and then they are put on Zoladex. I am worried about this as i have read that it makes u go into the menopause and i am only 25 years old i have always wanted a baby and now i worry that i might not be able to have one.
Has anyone stayed on Tamoxifen for 5 years with out changing??
Why do they like u to have both???
Sorry i am going on but I am just really worried also is Zoladex given by injection if so does it hurt and where does the needle go arm leg???

— —If you are ER+ Zoladex is another ‘weapon’ against the cancer. If it’s administered with tamoxifen in a pre-menopausal woman it’s called complete oetrogen blockade. The idea is to ‘starve’ cancer cells of their essential ‘nutrient’ oetrogen. Trials are presently going on to see if tamoxifen + Zoladex is more effective than just tamoxifen alone. Tamoxifen prevents cancer cells from taking in oetrogen (by blocking them: the cells take up tamoxifen first) and Zoladex stops your ovaries from working so there is less oetrogen in your body. It only stops your ovaries while you’re taking it and as you’re very young you’d probably find you were fertile at the end of a five year course.

I have both and the injection which you have monthly in your tummy muscle. I apply Enva cream which the GP gives me an hour before and that deadens the area. I really hardly feel a thing. I was petrified before the first, being a bit of a wimp. but there was no need to be.

You’re very young to have to endure all this though. I’m twenty years older and I have felt too young!!! I would ask your nurse for a bit of clarification regarding the order and likely lengths of your treaatments. Ask too about how to keep your bones strong if there’s less oestrogen to do that.

Good luck. Take care. Let us know how you get on.
