What happens if your biopsy shows her 2 negative then after surgery the oncotype test is ordered with the tumor that was removed? While that Oncotype testing is in process the surgery path report shows you are her 2 positive. Later the Oncotype report comes backing showing no benefit from chemo and Her 2 negative score. My oncologist told me the Oncotype is invalid since it is only for her 2 negative cancer. So, on the oncotype test it shows 10.4 her 2 negative. The oncologist told me some clerk just input a number since I never should have qualified for the test anyway. Now, why would this test report a range of Her 2 that can potentially go into the positive range stated on the report for some people I suppose if they have no capability of computing it? Very weird. First, I won’t be returning to this oncologist and second, I have called Exact Sciences and they’ve made notes about my experience and will have a clinician call me to discuss test results. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hello lesley3845
Thank you for your post.
It’s understandable you have questions about the results of your Oncotype DX test.
When the information on someone’s pathology report differs to their biopsy results, it can be difficult to process that this can impact on their individual treatment. It can become more confusing if tissue taken from your biopsy has already been sent for Oncotype testing because as your oncologist explained, the Oncotype DX test isn’t suitable for people whose breast cancer is oestrogen receptor negative or HER2 positive. This is because people with these types of breast cancer will usually have chemotherapy.
It’s good to read that you’ve spoken with Exact Sciences and that a clinician will call you to discuss your experience and test results.
Now that your breast cancer treatment team have all your results in the pathology report, they are best placed to discuss your individual treatment plan. However, if as you’ve said you feel don’t want to see your oncologist again, you can speak with your breast care nurse (if you have one) or GP about getting a second opinion.
