@jayveebee yes looks like my prescription is a type of antibiotic cream. My nose is red too so likely to be a low level infection. Anything is worth a try isn’t it.
Honestly we get the weirdest side effects don’t we ![]()
I got prescribed naseptin for dry nose too. It’s good stuff, really helped.
Suggesting CBT is nuts. They really will suggest anything.
I’m still annoyed I’m not being prescribed melatonin, you can buy it over the counter in the US and yet even though it’s available on prescription here they would rather I take another pain killer that has tons of side effects rather than just knock me out. And melatonin isn’t addictive either. They’re so tight.
Yes the boiling, I get that! I call them hot surges, flushes always seems like it’s not that serious. I still take a sleeping tablet on occasion to try to get a longer sleep but I still get woken at least twice.
The CBT course was helpful but I had tried nearly all of it already. I drink decaf coffee and don’t drink alcohol, both can make hot flushes worse. I have used Sleepio app but the restrictive sleep window is hard work when you can’t stop the hot flushes waking you, so you end up more fatigued. The nurse told us that Elinzanetant can also help with sleep.

@Linda_Corinne Phesgo definitely upset my digestive system. I had my last injection about 6 weeks ago and it’s now much more settled. I do find it can be triggered by a change in diet though. I drank a ginger shot a day for the last few weeks of treatment which helped a fair bit.
All those with scanxiety, I feel your nerves. I had to go for an ultrasound at my lymph node removal site yesterday. I went to the BC nurses last week with swelling and pain and they booked an examination and a scan for this week. It’s scary because last time we went through that process we all heard news we didn’t want to hear (or we wouldn’t be on this forum!). The scan was clear yesterday and I sobbed on the scanning table when I heard. I don’t know if I’ll ever get more blasé about having a scan but it made me think that just because the experience reminds us of the time we were diagnosed, it doesn’t mean the result this time will be the same.
I was prescribed Sterimar nasal spray for sore nose and it helped a lot x
Hi @galdiolus
I went to the optician because eye sight seemed like it was deteriorating with chemo and I’d only had an eye test 4 months before I started. Yes it had got a bit worth but was made to feel worse because of dry eyes. They gave me a prescription which helped hugely.
Hi everyone - I feel like I need a synopsis of what’s happened … so many posts !
It’s been a horrible week for us . We had a car accident last Friday , we are both ok but very shaken and shocked … and then we both had to work … then on the Sunday hubby went down with covid … so it’s all been a bit rubbish . Especially as we can’t claim on anyone’s insurance as it was a deer running into the rd …
@arty1 really sorry to here that. No idea why, when life delivers sh1t, it does it by the lorry load. A hug, and really hope your luck changes soon.
Hi @galdiolus
I have been reading and enjoying your posts for months and I had never noticed the and a being the wrong way round!! ![]()
looks perfectly ok to my chemo brain….
Xxx
Hi @maria1970
I am having three weekly Docetaxel (following 3 x3 weekly rounds of EC) and also worried about neuropathy. Still cold capping which is getting harder every time, and couldn’t face cold feet and hands as well so decided to go for compression socks. Bought them weeks ago and put them in a drawer.
On Monday night I kept waking up, thinking I would forget to take them to my first Doc Tuesday, but I put them in my bag and was all sorted.
After the Herceptin jab, the Docetaxel and the post cooling for the cold cap I suddenly remembered I hadn’t put my socks on!!! ![]()

So I guess I get what I get now. Bloody chemo brain!
Did have to have a reduced dose of Docetaxel because of mouth problems on EC so am hoping that goes with less SEs too.
Hope you are doing ok
Xx
@galdiolus I always wondered if it was a typo!
Thanks for clearing that up. Talking of clearing things up, my crusty nose was actually a low level infection for which I was given an antibiotic cream called Bactroban. It worked immediately after months of putting up with it. Herceptin definitely causes stomach issues too. I’m slowly returning to normal but it’s taking time.
@knock-knock I can’t make the cinema trip but no doubt will go to another daytime party at some point.
Lovely painting @hasnae87, what a mindful thing to do. Sunny and positive too.
@anb1 Really good luck for tomorrow. I found it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Rooting for you.
@norts I’m so happy your scan was clear. Hooray!!
@arty1 Bloody hell! You are certainly being tested of late. Surely after losing a parent, getting breast cancer, a house sale falling through then another going through, your daughter suffering a miscarriage and then a car crash… surely life cannot throw much more at you? That you keep on working and still get on here and support everyone else is testimony to what a spectacularly wonderful woman you are. Honoured to have you as a buddy.
And now I must get ready for end of term karaoke party for my Musical Theatre students. I do it all for the kids, you know. It’s all totally selfless. ![]()
@carrie5 and @salbert … this is my life … I’ve been unlucky since the day I was born … I’m the woman who nearly died from a small cut from
A kitchen worktop
this is the second no fault incident in a year with this car. I think it’s Jinxed . I’ve told husband I want to change it
Daughter is ok I guess . it was her birthday so not the best but she still went out and enjoyed herself . We are going up tomorrow night and will hopefully see her .
I’m not taking anymore bookings … the bookings in until end of August have been in the diary for months but no more … husband works all week as it is and I’m putting my health first x
Karaoke sounds fun ! Clearly you do it JUST for the kids ![]()

@hoggie - chemo brain is real . I’ve still got it ![]()
@fimac1 that is great advice, the drops i have been using are over the counter so wonder if I need to try something different for my eyes?
@norts great news about your scan ![]()
@arty1 so sorry to hear about your accident and pleased you are both ok. Wild animals can come out of nowhere. Hope husband feels better soon. Things will get better ![]()
@galdiolus funny you say it was a typo because every time I try to respond to you I put @gladiolus but no one has taken that name. Funny how your brain can work.
![]()
@naughty_boob i wish i could change it, but looks like you cant
Maybe i should email the support team and ask them
As someone who also was in a car accident less than 6 months ago, can confirm it’s one of the last things we need with everything else going on. Hope nobody is physically injured and swift recovery even if not.
@galdiolus I’m a bit thick with names (thought @hoggie was Hoggle, like the character from the movie Labyrinth), I thought it was some sort of Roman or Greek historical figure. I need to learn to read (can’t even blame chemo brain, which I definitely have, as I’ve been doing that kind of thing my whole life). ![]()
Just thought I’d offer up what I’ve been doing too, as my eyes are super dry on Kadcyla to the point the blurriness was extremely bad. Back and forth to the opticians and have ended up being referred to the specialist eye clinic (ophthalmologist) in Edinburgh. They prescribed Thealoz Duo drops as the ones the optician gave me weren’t working for long. I alternate these with Systane complete eye drops (pretty much use eye drops about once an hour). I am prescribed Xailin night eye ointment for at night as I literally couldn’t open my eyes during night/in morning due to how dry/sore it was. You can buy the Xailin on Amazon etc fairly cheap to test it first too to see if you like it. I just put it in before bed.
I also have an optase heated eye mask that I’ve to use once a day. Being consistent with all of the above helped massively but I was still a bit blurry so they’ve put punctal plugs in my eyes now too, which are temporary plugs (I get them in every 4 weeks and will till after chemo till it settles) which seem to be helping more too.
I’d say try different eye drops as I tried 3 before I found the ones that work for me best (I literally couldn’t drive at one point as my eyesight was so bad so although it can still get a bit blurry it’s miles better). Optician told me to try them a couple weeks too when you switch as it can take that long for things to repair if it’s helping. Good luck! My self care routine is very long as you can tell, as that’s just for my eyes hahaha ![]()
I got over counter and I think it dries them more as was more a saline type drop. The one from optician was much more oily/viscous. Felt great after I had used it and can be used up to 4 x a day
The theoloz duo drops are quite refreshing. I got those after I had lasik a few years back and it really helped with the dry eye. It’s especially nice if you keep them in the fridge!
For anyone else that’s suffering from dry mouth, mine was particularly bad at night and Xylimelts worked well for me in that respect. You stick one up between your lips and your gums (kinda like snus if you’re familiar with that) and it slowly dissolves overnight and keeps your mouth from becoming like the sahara. At one point, my mouth was getting so dry that I would wake up and feel like I needed to chug a bottle of water.
So glad you mentioned the naseptin, I saw my GP yesterday and she said my nose also has minor infections from all the scabbing and bleeding so she gave me some naseptin and a steroid nose spray and I already feel an improvement!! Should have gone months ago ![]()
