HER2+ and need some buddies

What fabulous news @cass2 and @rrey !! I’m so relieved that you’ve been able to get back off the rollercoaster. Go slap a bench! :raised_hand:t2::chair:

Hello @chakakhan I’m afraid I haven’t had either of those done. I always go to see my dentist before my next zoledronic acid but have been lucky so far to not need any treatment. I hope it all goes smoothly. You’ve got through so much, you can do this too.

Good to hear that you are on the mend @boobitis It really is a case of ticking off each stage and slowly but surely you’ll get there. Let us know what they say tomorrow. Big hug back to you.

@kartoffel The HER2+ slog really is an ultra-marathon, isn’t it. That’s really pants that your reconstruction has now been pushed to the middle of next year. Well done on organising a call with your surgeon. At least you can get some answers quickly. It does seem to have gone on and on for you. Let us know.

@caz591 Sometimes my shoulder and top of my arm get stiffer and achey. I think it must be scar tissue after all the ops and reconstruction. I just keep on doing the arm exercises. I’ve kind of accepted that this will probably continue now.

Tonight is end of term Christmas karaoke party at Musical Theatre class, complete with Elf Name Generator, team games and party food. And I get paid for it!

@salbert good thing I’ve got a lot of experience with ultra marathons :joy: Although, I can’t run at the moment because I rolled my ankle whilst out running the other week and now my husband says my feet look like I’ve been on a polar expedition - all black and blue.

I’ve had my call with my surgeon now and they’re still concerned because my liver function isn’t improving like they would have expected but they can’t see any obvious reason for them not behaving like mets or something bad like that. She has come around to my way of thinking and has agreed to get it planned now rather than waiting until January to start the planning so that I don’t get pushed out further than April.

Christmas karaoke sounds fun! And getting paid for it.. nice :joy: We had our Christmas lunch yesterday in the canteen at work and got exciting Malteasers advent calendars on our way out. I don’t even like Malteasers, so now I need to find someone else to give that to.

Well done for pushing for your op @kartoffel. Maybe your liver is just taking time to recover after all the hard work. And I promise I’m not lecturing but you haven’t stopped. In all the time I’ve known you, you have carried on working a full time job without telling anyone what you’re going through and running marathons and setting personal bests. Maybe you need some time to recover. I say this as a friend but at the same time I’m not sure I can be friends with someone who doesn’t like Maltesers!!

@salbert Think of it as more malteasers for you? :joy: I do like the ones that we had last year that were some sort of popcorn and malteasers but apparently I’m the only one. We had loads of those at our staff store since they didn’t sell.

Thanks for sharing @carrie5 looks really interesting. I’ve shared with my daughter as well.

@arty1 must be a shock to find a basement you didn’t know about.

@cass2 such good news about PCR.

@rrey great news about the lymph nodes.

@chakakhan i had a night guard to prevent me from grinding my teeth in my sleep for years but since having bisphosphonates I can’t wear it. It makes my jaw ache. I remember being told to be very careful with invasive treatment while on the treatment but can cause issues for life as well. Invisalign could be similar with moving teeth and couls cause discomfort. I’m waiting for an appointment at the dental hospital about my overgrown gum due to delay in dentist seeing me after a inlay fell out. Something that seems very simple has to be done at hospital and will probably be given antibiotics to take before to help prevent infection. Implants may be problematic due to drilling into bone.

@boobitis sorry to hear you’ve had a tough time but pleased it seems to have settled. Enjoy your Christmas with your little one.

@kartoffel sorry to hear you’ve surgery could be delayed so much, it just seems to drag it out even more. That must be so frustrating not knowing why the breast surgeon is saying the plastic surgeon needs to wait. I really hate it when things are not fully explained, it sends my mind into a spiral. Sorry to hear your liver function isn’t improving but glad you have pushed for the operation to be pencilled in.

@salbert :microphone::musical_notes: Hope you karaoke goes well. Always a bonus to be paid.

Thinking of you

I actually forgot. Honestly, the shock was on unreal. I cried when the oncologist told me. He also had to wipe away a tear. I will slap a bench though next time I’m up at the hospital. X

My arm movement went backwards after radiotherapy too. I had 15 sessions. Went back to doing my post surgery exercises and carried on with the strength and conditioning in the gym and almost have full range of movement in it again now x

Yea, I had mine when I wasn’t expecting it. I was having a check in with my surgeon and he said as it’s a year from diagnosis he would get mine done while I was there. Good thing was I didn’t have time to get wound up about it. Results came about 10 days later by letter and all clear. Felt nervous every time the post came! Try to distract yourself x

Thankyou. I have felt much better following this cycle so think I may have been fighting off a virus when I had the one before. I will look at the collagen. I already take glucosamine and chondroitin but my knees need all the help they can get!! X

A good quality omega 3 supplement is also supposed to help for joint stiffness- especially if you’re like me and don’t eat fish. I can’t remember if you’re triple positive but I’ve heard mixed reports on collagen and hormone positive cancer. Nothing conclusive either way but I’ve chosen to stop my collagen supplements because I’m risk averse.

Thanks I will continue with exercises and hopefully I will regain full movement, I didn’t think radiotherapy would affect me so much i had 15 treatments as well, im just so impatient thought once I got full movement after surgery that I would be fine X

Hello. Can I ask whether you started on bone Infusions when you were on tamoxifen? Nobody has mentioned them to me and I’ve been told I don’t need ovary suppression. I feel like the more I read, the more concerned that I’m not receiving full treatment.

Nope, they were only when I started the AIs. Tamoxifen doesn’t have the same effect on the bones as the AIs do.

Thank you @salbert and @naughty_boob oh ladies what a day it was. I had my results. I had good news, really good news, that my mastectomy did not reveal more DCIS or IDC, and they treat my 4mm cavity shave IDC as my original 5mm IDC. They did not even test whether it is also HER2 positive. Nodes still clear. Still same Stage 2 Gr2.So they said MDT deffo recommended Tamoxifen and in case of chemo they cannot decide, that I need to meet oncologist to ā€˜make informed choice’ and that it is ā€˜ up for discussion’. No radio. Then she was pleased in how I heal up and even did a surprise expander fill nr 1 which was perfectly fine, just left me a bit sore. My nurse said still it was good to remove that breast to be absolutely sure and cope better in future. They were very positive and said to get in touch with them depending on what I decide about chemo ( I feel I might be given choice).I presume there will be benefits vs risks talk and some % mentioned. I am relieved but also in limbo as honestly not sure what to expect.Does anyone had similar news from the surgical team before meeting the oncologist? Thanks so much and sending a big hug to everyone.

Hi @chakakhan

I had started Invisalign in August last year then was diagnosed with BC in the November. Initially thought it would be 19 trays so 19 weeks to move the teeth. However it ended up being 44 weeks.

I was due to start zolendronic acid in March around the 3rd dose of chemo etc (I had neoadjuvant TCHP), but didn’t have the infusion as I wanted to complete the dental work. My understanding is that the teeth may not move at all or move more slowly because of the affect of the Zolendronic acid.

If you’ve completed the bisphosphonate it may be okay. I know I’m stating the obvious but discussion with dentist and oncologist needed. My dentist looked panicked when I said I was starting it - he thought I’d had a dose before discussing it with him.

@boobitis thanks for sharing your positive news, brilliant a bench slap moment. As to the oncology meeting about what next, it’s hard to feel responsible for making the best decision for you but just let them give you the latest indications from research on treatment and outcomes that match your situation . Write it down, take your time, discuss with the bcn nurses here if that helps you weigh it up, let them have your decision when you’re ready. @salbert enjoy the karaoke. Take care all.

Thanks for your advice @carrie5 I will do all that and really research it all. I thought they will tell me I am cancer free or sth in these lines but they did not so not sure. I will check all the options, jot down all questions and check all information they will provide x

Great news @boobitis and I agree with @carrie5 it’s hard for you to make the decision yourself, hopefully they will give you lots of information to help with the decision. As they are the experts, I would expect them to guide me to the best treatment for my situation. Writing down any questions is a great idea and don’t be pressured into making a decision there and then. Sometimes you can be overloaded with information and need some time to process it all.
