HER2+ and need some buddies

Aw @jeml i know its so hard, especially when were so used to looking after them. But we are doing this for them and need to take care of ourselfves šŸ©·

Yes had fluids today and antibiotics been sent home with extra antibiotics so that should tide me over and start to pick up šŸ©·

How are you feeling ? Your surgery is coming up? Do you have your treatment plan for after ? Xx

@arty1 still got more treatment to go. I had chemo before surgery but I still have radiotherapy to go.

Unfortunately Iā€™ve not been well since Saturday with a high temp. First it felt like a cold, but now I have this terrible cough and bad chest. I canā€™t take a deep breath without having a coughing fit and Iā€™m coughing so much that itā€™s making me vomit.

Iā€™ve held off ringing for advice (probably stupidly) as I just naturally try and avoid it. But Iā€™ve rung the breast care nurses today and waiting for a call back. I had my dressing removed yesterday and am hoping my drain can come out today or tomorrow. Itā€™s so heavy carting it round everywhere. Iā€™m also due to have phesgo tomorrow but not sure whether that can go ahead because of this temperature that wonā€™t go away. Or it goes away for afew hours then comes back x

Oh my poor loves. So many of you are having a tough time at the moment. Like @shannon27 says, we have to remember why we are doing it and that we will come out the other side, emerging like butterflies, rising like the phoenix, wiser and stronger than we ever were. I love the analogy of kintsugi, broken pottery being mended with gold - beauty in the broken. Itā€™s a powerful metaphor for human resilience and it applies to each and every one of us. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and know that you will get there.

@arty1 My blood pressure went down to 94 over something. I didnā€™t take notice of the bottom reading as I was a bit shocked that it was 104 and then 10 lower than that. I have an appointment with my cardio oncologist on Monday evening so will discuss it with him then. I did keep mentioning the Candesartan to all the staff but nobody seemed to know whether it was responsible for my low blood pressure. Now you have said that it is, I have Googled it and indeed you are right. You are very valuable on this forum.

Iā€™m going to see Wicked at the cinema tonight as I feel like we need to do it in Musical Theatre class next term seeing as it is the film du jour. I can hardly wait for it to be 8pm!

Hang in there, lovely ones

@rrey if youā€™ve not heard back from your breast care nurses I would suggest calling your GP as you may need antibiotics for an infection with your temperature. Your immune system could still be very low.

Sheā€™s right, you know. Sheā€™s always right. If @naughty_boob says it then you should definitely do it! Sheā€™s like the mum of this thread.

Thank you @naughty_boob - I went to the hospital this afternoon as they slotted me in to remove the drain. They gave me a good check over and they are happy with the wounds etc so no concerns about an infection on that front. They suggested it could be from the general anaesthetic. But if itā€™s not improved in a couple of days Iā€™ll go the GP. Thank you for the sound advice you always give!

@jeml I opted for a lumpectomy and full node clearance in the end. Iā€™m doing ok - quite tight under my arm but now the drains removed Iā€™m hoping I can start moving around even more and that my arm movement starts to improve more. It is definitely improving day on day though - I can get my arm higher and higher each day so Iā€™ll take that for now. How are you feeling about your op? X

I like to air on the side of caution. Iā€™m definitely not always right but thank you for the vote of confidence.

Gosh you make me feel old calling me the Mum of this thread!:older_woman:

@rrey so glad they were able to slot you in and all is well.

I got home last night and went to a local hospital to get the pump changed today. The district nurse will come out tomoz to change it after itā€™s delivered in the am hopefully. My op will be in Jan now. Will be on Exemastrane from Friday hopefully otherwise will get it from the gp. Having Phesgo on Friday. Just been chilling in bed this am and on the sofa now when we got back. Took ages today as they had to make it up from the antib bottles and saline. Got a call re end date of iv antibā€™s but they are going to call back. Also got a call re an ultrasound and they are calling back when I know when the district nurse is coming although I am having Phesgo on Friday too but wonā€™t know when until tomoz.

@rrey did they give you any antibiotics?
You are more at risk of serious chest infections after a general anaesthetic because the anaesthetic affects the way the tiny hairs lining the bronchi work , so mucous canā€™t be swept along in the same way . Aside from clot risks itā€™s another reason why they want you up and about asap after a general x
Drink plenty of water as this will thin out any mucous in your lungs

Thank you for the tips! Yes, they gave me a 7 day course of antibiotics to take home after surgery. Due to finish them tomorrow. The more I hear about it, the more I think it could be the general anaesthetic and itā€™s just taking me longer to recover from it. The nurse I saw rang me about 6pm tonight aswell, she wanted to check I was ok and said sheā€™d spoken to the surgeon after Iā€™d left about it. Theyā€™re so caring x

@naughty_boob You are the same age as me so absolutely, definitely not old. We are in the prime of our lives!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Linda_Corinne Iā€™m so glad you are home. You and @rrey must take it easy now.

Wicked the film was good but I donā€™t think it works as well as it does on stage. Still, very entertaining, if a bit long! Iā€™ve been for Phesgo today so thatā€™s another one done. Christmas karaoke party for Musical Theatre class tonight. Itā€™s been a year since I last did one as we usually have it at the end of each term but I was out for the spring and summer terms. It feels so good to be back doing it again having got the bulk of the treatment behind me. We all need to celebrate these milestones and ticking off each part of our treatment. Looking forward to being back in time to see who gets kicked out of the jungle next. I have enjoyed it this year. Iā€™d love to see the Reverend Richard Coles win. I love him!!

Iā€™ve been to see the cancer physio and she for the first time in months had a good poke and prod around the naughty boobs, chest wall and armpit. She found I had a small amount of cording, no wonder itā€™s painful! I had 3 nodes removed as part of a sentinel node biopsy on each side.

Luckily I now have a massage routine on top of all my stretching and exercises and a follow up massage session next week.

The NHS can be great but it does upset me that Iā€™ve been ā€˜moaningā€™ about the pain and discomfort and nobody checked for cording! BTW my operation was July 2023ā€¦ yes last year!

Hope everyone is doing ok.

:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Gosh thatā€™s a long time to wait for them to confirm itā€™s cording. Hope you get some relief from it very soon!!

My dear @naughty_boob, it makes me sad that you have been in pain after all the care you extend to others. You of all people deserve a massage session. Thatā€™s a long time to have been in discomfort. Iā€™m convinced that chemo has left me with IBS. When I need to go, I need to go! This was discussed at the Moving Forward course and itā€™s not uncommon, it seems. That and the crap nails and dodgy hairdo thatā€™s growing back. Oh and then thereā€™s the sluggish heart valveā€¦ Iā€™m so grateful to work from home during the day. That has made all the difference. Just doing last nightā€™s karaoke Christmas party for the kids and I felt tired waking up this morning. I keep hoping all this will go away and we will regain the health and flowing locks we had before it all began. I do hope so. At the moment I have a proper granny hairdo and keep needing to bolt to the lav in the middle of conversations!

Aww i just want to give you a massive hug! I know exactly how you feel! It hit me too the first time i think thats how everyone feelsā€¦ its just like wow this is really happening. How you feeling now? How is the side effects? It will be over before you know it! I know it dont seem like it but its true, it does go pretty quick. Once you get into your routine you will just go in with your head high and probably get to know the staff too. Remember that our type responds really well to the chemo so keep that in mind and imagine it getting blasted! Thats what i did. Also when you have your scan again after starting and it starts to shrink it honestly makes you more determined than ever!
Thank you! Only got this weekend and next before my op so making most of it. X @shannon27
