Hi. I am 44 years old and had an appointment after noticing a flattened area on my left breast. Biopsy taken and confirmed primary breast cancer. There is a 12mm lump and a large area of micro calcifications. Biopsy results so far show it ER positive? There is nothing near my lymph and I have had a pet scan that shows nothing other than what they could already see from the ultrasound on my left breast. Right breast is clear. Dr had said full mastectomy due to the extent of the calcifications and just waiting for the her2 result to come back. It seems to be taking forever….biopsy taken over 2 weeks ago. Is this normal?
I am so frightened. I have 3 children 15, 12 and 4. Older ones know about the diagnosis and are really supportive (told them it is very treatable) but I am just so scared now that I won’t get to see them all grow up x

Hi Norms80
I think this is normal mine took about 3 weeks
I was told this one can take longer at my appointment with the consultant for the first findings.
You can always ring your BCN and ask if they are back yet
Take care

I think biopsies take about 3 weeks, mine did, but then my surgery followed fairly quickly after that. My own experience I found the lump, saw GP, had a mammogram, CT scan & biopsy, lumpectomy, then an excision, another biopsy, 5 sessions of radiotherapy, all completed in exactly 5 months from finding the lump, which I thought was very quick. All the best.

@norms80 totally normal to be terrified at this stage. Your level of fear is related to how much you love your kids, not the likelihood of it happening. I have a 2 year old and I know exactly what you mean. The feelings come and go and are worst when stressed or worn out. My HER2+ results from lumpectomy took ages to come back. I’m also headed down the mastectomy route after huge lumpectomy failed to get all the DCIS, I’m terrified they’ll find another invasive focus in the stuff they’ve left behind. At this point I wish I’d just gone down the mastectomy route back in March. Hang in there, not knowing is the worst bit. Maybe give your breast care nurse a call to talk things through, they’re experts at calming us down and getting things done behind the scenes

Hi @norms80
The waiting is the worst , mine took about 3 weeks including they had MDT to discuss results hang in there , mastectomy isn’t to bad especially if no nymph nodes involved recovery is fairly quick wish you well x

Welcome Norms8
Waiting for results is the worst. For me I went from HER2 negative from initial biopsy to HER2 positive after surgery, so my treatment plan got changed.
Take each day at a time. There is a lot of support to be had and make use of all the help you can.
Best wishes xx
