herceptin for more than a year for secondary breast cancer I had Docetaxel 4 treatments and Herceptin for one year for a recurrence of breast cancer as small lumps in my neck. These lumps showed up as disease on a CT scan prior to treatment. The lumps shrunk with treatment. I have 3 more small lumps in my neck which did not show as disease on a CT scan 5 mths ago even though they were present. There was no evidence of any other disease on the CT scan. I completed 1 yr Herceptin treatment in early March 06 and am wondering whether there might be an option to continue with Herceptin as the lumps are still there and increasing in size I think. Are there any ladies having Herceptin for longer than one yr for secondary disease? If so, how long you been having treatment and what criteria were considered for continuing?

Hello Mercedes,

Can’t help you much - but just wanted to say that there is a lady at the private hospital where my partner, Juliet, has her herceptin treatment - who has had herceptin for over 3 years. Not sure if the ‘private’ side of things muddies the waters though…

Hi mercedes,

I have been on herceptin for over 2 years now for recurrence of breast cancer as small lumps in my neck! Initially I was treated with capecitabine -which didn’t work, then vinorelbine which did work but the lumps returned a couple of months later. That was then they put me on herceptin and it has been a great success for me. They are going to leave me on in it for the foreseeable future. I also was dx. with bone mets 3 years ago, so am on pamidronate for that. I do not have any more chemo treatment because the oncs. reckon there are no more options that way. If you want to chat on private mails etc. (not exchanging personal email addresses) a lot of us here belong to another site which enables us to chat between ourselves a lot more.
