Herceptin result

Hi

Can anyone answer this for me…

Is a Herceptin result that comes back as 2+, and therefore has the FISH test which then comes back positive, the same as getting a 3+ result?

Does a 3+ result benefit more from herceptin than a 2+ , FISH positive result?

Hi Lolly,

As far as I understand this, Herceptin is only appropriate with an HER2+++ histology. Not many labs carry out the FISH test because the equipment to test this way is very much more expensive. Normally on a 2+ result herceptin would not be give so it is good that your hospital requested a FISH test because it is more accurate and appears to have show that you will benefit from Herceptin. I hope I have this right but I think this is the case.

DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER IN MARCH WHEN I WAS TOLD I WAS HER2 POSITIVE AND NOT OESTROGEN POSITIVE FOR TOMOXIFEN.
I HAVE HAD 4 TREATMENTS OF AC AND AM GOING TO COMMENCE DOCETAXIL AND HERCEPTIN IN A WEEKS TIME PRIOR TO SURGERY
HAS ANY ONE BEEN ON HERCEPTIN AND HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN ON IT FOR AS SOME ARTICLES I HAVE READ HAVE SAID IT IS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
DESPERATE TO GET BACK TO WORK BUT FEEL THAT IF THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY LONG TERM THERAPY AND ARE THERE GOING TO BE LONG TERM SIDE EFFECTS THAT STOP ME WORKING
HAS ANY ONE BEEN TOLD IF THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO HERCEPTIN BY THEIR ONCOLOGIST
VERY CONFUSED - HELP!!!

Hi Hay,

If you have been told your cancer is her2+++ then it is important to have herceptin. It is normally given for one year when you have primary breast cancer and again the norm is that it is concurrent with or follows on from chemotherapy. It is adminstered intravenously and varies from hospital to hospital whether that will be for 30mins or 90mins every 3 weeks.

I have secondaries therefore will be on herceptin so long as it works for me. That has been for 6 years now and I have never really noticed any side effects.

Hi all, i was daignosed in late oct had wle and lymph nodes removed, grade 1, oes+ and was eventually told I was borderline HER2+, after discussion with various oncologists I am starting on herceptin in Sept. Had last chemo today, and am supposed to be starting rad on 13/7, providing they find nothing on liver scan scheduled for next wed. They spotted something when I went for radio planning. Told me today not to worry!!! easier said than done.
Might as well throw everythng at it and try and get rid of it, also got tamoxifen

Hello all
I was told I was HER 2+ but not sure how many +, but in any case I was started on Herceptin last August concurrent with my 3rd round of taxotere and I’ve been on Herceptin since.

However, I was told I would only be on it for a year, so I am assuming that my next one will be my last, as it is no 18. I changed hospitals after the start of my treatment so I’m not too sure if this hospital is happy with me saying how many i’ve had, or whether they will continue until I’ve had 18 with them, which means carrying on until November.

I live in France so maybe things are a bit different here.

Good luck to all
