Hi ?- am a new member

Hi. I’m Sharon. I am 61, married with 3 children and 3 grandchildren. My journey has been a blur and know this will resonate with others!  After a play fight with my grandson last July I developed what I thought was a bruise on my right breast which didn’t seem to go away. A few weeks later I was referred to the local Breast Team who did ultrasound, mammogram etc but nothing showed up. Was about to be sent home when the consultant decided to do a biopsy and it was all downhill from there. A Grade 2 Cancer - invasive lobular breast cancer. Despite having an MRI the cancer did not show up so in July I had a full mastectomy and a sentinel node removal. The removal didn’t go as planned as I had further surgery in September to harvest nodes. I am so lucky as they were all clear. I had radiotherapy and am on Astrazenol. I am struggling with the mastectomy mentally and find it difficult to talk to friends and family as they dont really understand. Hoping this forum will help me on a journey of acceptance x

Hi @Sassyshaz   - A very warm welcome to you on the Forum. A great place for advice, offloading, chats.

Golly girl, I am amazed (not happily) to hear about your BC basically having been invisible to all the scans, MRI.

We do go through a “grieving” after the loss of a breast. Noted you said your Mast was July. Have you a decent prosthesis and bra and happier once they’re on?

If with time, you’re still unhappy, you always have the option of a delayed reconstruction, be it a self tissue one, or implant which involves less surgery, scarring, but is a longer process from start to finish with the different stages involved. Have you looked into or discussed recon at all?

Have you checked out the other areas and different sections?? Daily Life After - Coping with Fear and Anxiety, Moving Forward after treatment. Or the Going Through Breast Cancer, for any Hormone problems, further Surgery etc. You may wish to move on to posting with those, once you feel your ready to move on from your introduction.

Hi Sharon,

Sorry to hearing all that you are struggling on your own! So difficult time, I am facing the same

I need to have the Mastectomy, already as it is, it’s a such difficult decision! They keep talking to make the reconstruction but I can’t live with a silicone bub for the ret of my life

I would keep as it will be, flat!

Do you have the reconstruction in a second stage?

Please keep all the strength together to have a speedy recovery!

Best regards,

Rose
