Hi I am new here: I am 48 and am under the family history clinic so I started having mammograms at 40. I was recalled last week and was told by the consultant and the consultant radiologist that my 2cm lump is highly likely to be cancer, from what they saw on the imaging, and they were talking about treatment options rather than let’s see if it is or isn’t cancer.. My last mammogram was a year ago so it has developed since then. I’m a realist and have my head around the fact it is probably cancer and have an appointment next week to discuss the biopsy results. The consultant said on a scale of 1 -10, with 1 being normal and 10 being cancer, you are leaning towards 10.
Has anyone else been told that it is highly likely to be cancer and then the biopsy comes back ok?
I am very lucky to be spending this week in Spain with my family so I have a lot of support and distraction around me. We fly home Tuesday and then Wednesday is results day!

I was actually in the opposite situation where I was told it didn’t look like cancer and was probably benign. I even originally had just a telephone appointment booked for the results. It was when it was changed to a face-to-face a few days before that I started to think it was going to be bad and it was confirmed as cancer at that appointment. Looking back I think in a way for me it might have been easier if they had thought it was cancer from the start.
Even though I haven’t had your experience myself, I’ve heard from many women who have and those who were told it’s highly likely to be cancer at the initial appointment did go on to be diagnosed by the biopsy. However it’s not official until the biopsy confirms it so I don’t see why you can’t hang on to a glimmer of hope if you can see one.
The weather back in the UK is poop at the moment so you are indeed very lucky to be in Spain this week! I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family and I wish you all the best for your results appointment. We’re here for you if it does turn out you need us after that. x

I was told it was probably cancer and so it turned out. Be aware there are different types of breast cancer and your treatment will depend on things like hormone receptors and protein receptors .the biopsy will give your doctors the information to choose the best treatment for you.

I had that about 20 years ago. Consultant on the day was 99% convinced my lump was BC. When I went for the results (blood pressure off the scale and so high I could hardly see!) it turns out it was fibroadenoma - usually seen in younger women and I was in my early 40s.
Fast forward to late 2020 I did have BC in the other breast - massive lump and lots of lymph node spread. Mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy in 2021, another 5 years of taking Anastrazole and here I am replying to you.
The waiting is the worst. Let’s hope it’s a benign lump but if not, once you know and have your plan it is more manageable as you know what’s going to happen rather than the not knowing and the millions of what ifs.
