Hi - new to the group. Anyone in Weymouth area?

Hi everyone, I have been reading posts for a while now and responded to a few but not introduced myself. I am 60 years old and have ER positive, PR negative and HER2 negative breast cancer. It has been a 16 week rollercoaster ride to where I am now and I (now) know that many women go through the same as I have. When I started I had absolutely no idea! I am having a right sided mastectomy on the 10th October. It has been booked for the 3rd for a while now but strike action has delayed it for a week and this has been really difficult as I prepared myself psychologically for that date and now the goalposts have moved again. Feeling pretty wobbly with it all.
I have been on lots of chat groups and this has been very helpful but not found any support groups in my area. The Weymouth group is no longer running despite it being ‘advertised’ and have got nowhere with BC nurses to try and find women locally. It seems to be a common theme on chat groups that people cannot find anyone close to them. Would just like to meet for a coffee and a chat rather than post online…anyone in my area who feels the same please get in touch x

If it’s any help to you, there’s a ‘Maggies Centre’ based at University Hospital Southampton? I’m in London, but I remember that many ladies on here found ‘Maggie’s’ really helpful. If it’s a bit too far for you, maybe they can advise of anywhere and anyone closer? I wish you all the best. Have a look at their website maybe?

Hi @maggie13

Welcome to the forum. As I’m sure you know from reading posts for a while, it is full of kind, helpful people like @Paulus and I hope you find the support you are looking for.

Please know that our nurses are here for you any time, here on the forum on the Ask our Nurses your questions or over the phone 0808 800 6000.

Sending our love,
Lucy

Thank you Paulus, unfortunately Southampton is 1 1/2 train journey so not really an option, working up to surgery date and back to work as soon as I’ve recovered! Maggies has nothing locally x

Hi dear, you are welcome even noone want to be in this situation.I am also in your situation with the same diagnosis, only I had the operation in July I do not participate in any physical group, but here on the forum I found support and useful information I have also read I think all the stories written and I am grateful to have found this forum. The written lives and experiences they went through helped me daily to move on and stay At Search you can search for keywords and find many exposed stories that can help you understand that you are not alone and that treatment will help us to be us again All my best wishes, don’t worry it will be fine
