Hi! Really worried about a indent

Hi

I’m 30 years old and recently noticed a indent on my right breast. You cant feel it, but you can see it… It goes towards my side (just above where the breast sits… if that makes sense) both breasts are really sore too… probably due to all the poking and prodding!
I went to my GP yesterday and she felt about and couldn’t feel anything, but could see the indent. She said it could be a number of things and said she wasnt worried, she asked if I could wait 4 weeks and come back if its still there. . I said yes then got home and decided I couldn’t wait 4 weeks, so rang her up and asked her to refer me.
I came off the pill in May as my husband and I want to start a family. My periods still aren’t regular and I have been told indents and dimples could be caused by your body during your menstrual cycle. I have tried to find out other possible reasons for indents/dimples and all I get back is breast cancer stories.
Both my grandmothers have suffered Breast cancer
I am so scared, been crying on and off for the last couple of days. Came across this site while googling “indents on breast”… Kind of hoping someone will tell me everythings going to be ok and it can’t possibly be that! But I know I might need to prepare myself for the worse.
Its just nice to know im not alone

Sorry to hear you are going through this at the moment MooLou. As you know, breast indents can be one of the warning signs of breast cancer, so you are doing the right thing getting yourself checked out. It is worrying and it is perfectly natural to feel this concerned while you are waiting for an appointment to get it looked at. Please keep us posted about how you are getting on. You will find lots of support here. Hopefully your appointment will come and go soon and you will get good news to put your mind at rest.
All the best,

Nicola x

Hi MooLou,
I’m really sorry to hear you are going through this and I know the waiting is a nightmare. The fear of the unknown is the worst and while you might fear the results it is better to know sooner rather than later especially if it is cancer. Breast cancer is very treatable if it is picked up at an early stage. I don’t know about your grandparents’ experiences but there have been many advances in treatment even in the last few years. If you are finding it difficult to cope with the waiting - and I know how difficult that part is - then it might be worth explaining this to your GP and see if you can get an urgent referral. I think with a family history of BC most GPs would refer you just to be on the safe side.
Sadly I can’t tell you it’s definitely not cancer (really wish I could). But I can’t stress enough how important to get any changes in your breast checked out so you’ve done the right thing.
Best of luck with your appointment and try not to worry too much - I know that’s easier said than done.
Take care

Hi MooLou,
Hopefully you are worrying over nothing, but you are definitely doing the right thing in getting checked out.
Puckering was the first thing I noticed before I got checked out, but I could also then feel a lump, and as you cant, maybe thats a good sign.
Will be thinking of you, please let us know how the appointment goes,
Best wishes xx

Thank you all for taking the time to reply… So pleased to have found this site.
As I mentioned my husband and I are trying for a baby I kind of think we should stop but he doesn’t. My head is all over the place at the moment, as this indent is all i can think about.
Really hope the appointment isn’t too far away.
Thanks again for reading x

Hi MooLou,
I’m so sorry that you are going through such a stressful time at the moment. I think you are doing exactly the right thing. I so hope it turns out to be harmless. My symptoms was an indentation and no lump and I was mis diagnosed twice before it was found, thankfully I am now doing well now. I am saying this not to scare you but to let you know sometimes you do have to push to get answers. Hopefully your symptom is from something not related to anything serious, as breasts do go through lots of changes throughout our lives. Good luck and best wishes xx

Mis diagnosed twice! Thats awful… was that by your GP? xx

No it was by the Breast Unit ! To be honest my GP was pretty quick to refer me on each occasion. My mammogram showed clear it was found only through breast MRI and biopsy which are not always routinely given. Again I dont want to scare you just arm you with information. There are also lots of harmless changes that can happen too. Hopefully you are worrying over nothing, and everything will be fine. xx

my appointment is on the 5th dec… absolutely terrified

Keeping everything crossed for you till then (will be difficult packing to move house though…)
