Hi. When I had my first docetaxel dose yesterday, both nurses commented on the large dose, saying most people had half that. My bag was 200. Not sure of unit. I’m not huge and my EC was standard doses. Is 200 really that much? I’m only having 3x docetaxel. Thank you.
Dear Bluesatsuma,
How are you doing, I was one of the lucky ones didn’t need chemo so I can’t comment on any treatment.
But I would like to wishing you well, hopefully your treatment goes smooth, and life will get get easier each day.
Love and hugs Tili
Thank you for your support @Tili. I hope you’re getting on well too and recovered from this tough old time. It’s been a long and winding road with months to go, but the chemo has not been as bad as I expected…so far! Xxx
So pleased to hear you’re doing well with you treatment at the moment. I’m ok thank you just have a knee problem at the moment so as you can imagine the mind is doing overtime (as we do).
Hopefully a happy Sunday with your family, lots of happiness ahead.
Hugs Tili
Hope that knee gets checked and fixed soon. Hopefully just wear and tear. Sending hugs. X
Ooh sorry I don’t know the answer. Just wanted to say Hi and hope you are Ok as I know you’ve had a really tough year. Helen x
Thank you @hc1973. Hope you are doing well and getting through this. I’m just do grateful to be getting through the chemo. Xxx
I think I was in 200 too (I am chonky though), it got initially reduced after I had a reaction and, now I’m definitely allergic, they’ve taken me off it.
I was told by several nurses (including my retired palliative nurse aunt) it is a brutal drug regardless of amount. They’re all poisons after all.
Yes it’s a real journey isn’t it! I finished my chemo 21st August just finished 2 weeks of radio therapy. Started hormone therapy and due to start cancer targeted therapy in Jan for 2 years. I saw your post about hair. I had 1 x docetaxal due to a reaction went onto 9 x nab-paclitaxel and had 3 x EC I lost all my hair. My hair started growing back in September and I’m no longer shiny bald I actually have hair growing! I was worried about it never coming back too. In fact it’s really amazing how every day it looks different and I can see it growing. I’ve always had long hair so I don’t think you appreciate how much your hair grows as you never really notice it. Good luck sending love for the rest of your chemo treatments
Yes @sez it is brutal. Ive obviously seen and followed your drama with the allergic reactions and it was in part that which made me so nervous. I’m glad that they’ve got that all sorted now though. Not long left to go and then we can get on to next part. It was just that the nurses seemed surprised that my dose was 200 and it got me worried. Expecting some side effects any day as my steroids are over now.
I wish you all the best as you finish off chemo @sez xxx
Thanks again @hc1973. Hope that hair keeps on sprouting on through and by xmas you can rock your new hair do. Looks like you’re over the biggest hurdle now. Wishing you lots of best wishes on the home stretch xxx
Just looked back to check my dose and it was 160 - I’m pretty small, only 5 foot and not very heavy so not sure if 200 is a lot in comparison. I think I’d rather have a stronger dose than not enough but it may be worth checking next time, Emma
Hi bluesatsuma
Thank you for posting. It is understandable that you have questions about your docetaxel dose following comments by the nurses. There are a variety of different chemotherapy regimes and doses for breast cancer and which one you are given will depend on the features of your cancer, your general health and weight, and any other treatments you may be given. Treatment doses vary from person to person as @sez an @ivy-cat’s experiences demonstrate. Often treatment regimes are adapted and doses reduced if significant side effects are experienced.
Your treatment team will calculate the dose you should receive and as @ivy-cat says it is important to talk to them about any questions you may have regarding the dose you have been prescribed.
It sounds as though you are already aware of our online peer-to-peer support forum but if not, you may find our monthly chemotherapy threads area particularly helpful. The forums are message boards where people affected by breast cancer or with breast health concerns can learn about other people’s experiences and share their own if they wish to.
You can read the forums without registering. If you would like to join a discussion or start your own, you can find out how to get started here.
Best wishes
