Hi I am currently having treatment for TNBC… this is a new primary cancer but my second diagnosis (first was 3 years ago and wasn’t triple negative but I do have BRCA gene).
This time I have been having Paclitaxal and Carboplatin but it has been really stop start due to high liver function blood tests. This week chemo has been delayed again as they are at 197. I am having bloods again next week before seeing the oncologist in person to discuss plans.
My worry is if they stop this chemo what are the other options? Are there other chemos I could have? Thanks
Just to say I’m going through the same thing. My alt was 227 this week (180 last week) and my paclitaxel today was delivered. I was told that they would go up to 10x the limit, limit being 32. They’ve made an urgent referral to gastro - I’ve already had a detailed liver ultrasound which was ok. I’m told the plan is to deliver 75% of the dose next time if bloods are ok to go ahead.
Fingers crossed for us both. It’s hard enough without these additional issues.
Thanks for your response… I will ask about going ahead at a reduced rate. Mine went up to 483 at the start so we stopped everything for 4 weeks and they came down to 87. I to have had a clear ultrasound so they then delivered just carboplatin but they went back up so we stopped carboplatin and I’ve had two weeks of Paclitaxal— now they have gone back up again! It’s so fustrating as I feel ok and just want to go for it with treatment! I’m so scared they are going to say no chemo and then I’m worried where that leaves me with the cancer coming back again’ thanks xx
Thanks for this. It’s so helpful to hear others’ experiences. Like you I am concerned about the treatment stopping and want through this on time as I need to get back to work and life on the other side. But as my nurse said, they need to get us through intact.
Four weeks sounds like a long and frustrating break.
I hope the consult yields positive answers.
Hi vicky22111982
Thanks for posting
It sounds like an anxious time for you and it’s understandable that you are concerned about your chemotherapy being delayed and your worry that it may be stopped if your liver function tests remain high.
This is your second experience of a primary breast cancer, but you may not have had a previous experience with chemotherapy as your cancer then was not triple negative. It’s not unusual for people to have delays or dose changes to their chemotherapy as @ brambles1has experienced. The chemotherapy is tailored to your individual situation, but side effects are carefully monitored and managed as each person’s tolerance may be different. You may find it helpful to talk to your chemotherapy team about your concerns as they will know what chemotherapy options are best for you.
