Highlights in hair whilst on Taxol chemo

Please can anyone tell me if they have had their hair highlighted whilst on Taxol. I haven’t lost my hair and am wondering if this is possible.
Thanks for any help.

Ive lost my eyebrows though. Has anyone had eyebrow tatoos done?

Hi

I don’t know what the deal is during chemo as I lost all my hair. Just before it fell out I used a less chemically dye, then when it grew back I had to wait 6 months until I had any dye and my hair dresser made me wait a year for highlights. If I were you I’d leave your hair well alone until after treatment, you don’t want to do anything to it that could encourage it to fall out. How long have you got left on chemo?

As for eyebrow tatoos, logically it makes not sense not to have tatooing done during chemo as your immune system is compromised so you could easily get infections etc. Mine grew back pretty quickly afterwards though. Get a decent eyebrow pencil instead.

Some eyebrow tatt folks came to the Haven to do a demo; it costs £300 and lasts about 18 months.

Thanks for your help Ninja and Em; that’s really helpful.

I’ve lost half my eyelashes too aswell as my pubes! I tried false eyelashes but they started falling off all the time. Now my hair’s starting to grow back. Yipee!

Hi how many tax are you having,

I had 6 and lost all my hair, everywhere,

the thing is I havent heard anyone else thats on tax say that they have kept their hair, (not sure whether or not the cold cap works)

If I were you I wouldnt risk doing anything other than have it trimmed,

all the best Liz xxx

Hi CarrieJo
I’ve had 10 lots of Taxol so far and like you have kept my hair. I have asked about colouring my hair but have to confess I am scared about going ahead with it.
I have bought and used a Touchback hair colour pen and use this to cover my grey bits on days when I want to ‘feel good’ - the pen has no ammonia or peroxide and comes out when washed.

As for eyebrow tattooing I’m not sure - I’m keeping a long fringe to cover my very thin eyebrows!

Take care

Hi, when I was on Taxol, ( after Fec ) my hair on my head started to come bck, but i lost my eyelashes and eyebrows . I managed with a good eyebrow pencil and eyeliner, and as I wear contact lenses, I found that my eyes were constantly watery and gritty, so I invested in a par of dark framed glasses. I found that with my make up on, I just received compliments about my new glasses, when i pointed out why i was wearing them, not even my closest friend had noticed . Good news was that a month after , my eyebrows came back almost overnight , really thick and had to have them shaped after 3 weeks, and my eyelashes came back nice too. They are not as long as before, but they are back !My hair is now about 5cm long ( finished chemo 5/2)but it is horrible, curly and very grey . My scalp can be very sore on the top if i touch my head . Going on holiday in a few weeks and although I wear my wigs when i am out, have to face the fact that I will have to bear my new ‘fuzz do’ during the day . Any advice on products to colour it ? tried Greybuster , which is free from amonia and peroxide, but went a strange green colour !! If I added a bit of pink to my hair, I would look like a brillo pad !! I know I should be happy that my hair is growing back ( i struggled for a long time when I lost it ) but I really hate it , I am 44 and look like a 70 year old !

I’m really worried about coming back as a silver surfer. My hair was dark blonde/ light brown before and I had it highlighted. The thoughts of going though the shiny bounce look I now sport, just to replace it with grey hair is quite depressing.

I finished EC 3 weeks ago, had 3 lots of Taxol and have 12 more weeks of Taxol to come. I do hope that I get some hair growth before October but not sure about coming back looking old.
cancer - the gift that keeps on giving :frowning:

I regularly colour my hair but my hairdresser said to wait at least 6 months before trying to colour after finishing chemo. In her experiences dyes don’t take very well before then, and one of her clients who insisted on having it done after just two months lost most of their new growth. But these were with stronger dyes so I do not know what the result would be like with if you went for a non-peroxide/ammonoia dye.

hairscientists.org/chemotherapy-and-hair.htm is an article by the scientific experts. They reckon begetable based dyes are safe.

I’m on Tax and my hair is regrowing, but very grey and I was dyed blonde. I’m either dying it or sticking with the wigs until it’s the right length of time to have it redyed to blonde.
