Hip pain - reassurance required

I’m probably overthinking it. I was diagnosed with a 44mm ER/PR+ HER2 Neg (1+) G3 IDC at 39 in March 23. Lymph node and lymphovascular invasion negative. Lumpectomy, chemo and radiotherapy completed. Started letrozole zoladex zometa and ribociclib(but had to stop the ribociclib due to liver problems).

Ive been getting occasional sharp pains in my hip usually after sitting for a long time while working. It seems more frequent when I dont do my calinesthenics regularly.

I keep forgetting to mention it to my oncologist. Im assuming its a side effect of the AI. It this more likely? If so im hoping a physio might be able to help. I have a history of origin tendinitis in that hip but that was the inside of my thigh. This seems more outside.

Any reassurance would be gratefully received. But I will try to contact me oncologist too.

Hi redruth,

Thanks for posting.

There could be a number of causes for your hip pain. As you say it could be related to the aromatase inhibitor you are taking. Or it could be a musculo skeletal issue. You explain having a history of tendonitis in that hip. It sounds as if exercising helps it, if so, then physio may be useful.

It’s important to be sure though, so any new symptoms you develop that are persistent and don’t go away need to be checked out by your treatment team. It’s good to see you are contacting your oncologist about this. You may want to call your breast care nurse. They can properly assess you, confirm the cause and suggest what might help.
