Hiya. I’m on several medications - ribociclib, solifenacin, ibandronic acid, vit D and calcium, venlaflaxine. Most of them say they can cause hives, but my oncologist has investigated and says she isn’t sure which is causing it. The itching is driving me insane. She says I can’t take antihistamines. I’ve been using eurax cream - it helps a bit but as soon as I get hot, the itching returns. Any advice welcome.
For my itchy feet GP prescribed an aqueous cream with menthol in which cools it right down. Might be worth checking if you can use that. Also cool packs, pop a damp washcloth in a ziplock bag in the fridge and use it to cool the itch.
Thank you @bluetit11. I will ask. Hope you are less itchy now!
I’m in a similar situation, used everything the doc prescribed including antihistamines. Then found Epimax Oatmeal cream, it worked used it twice a day and the hives died down after two days. Still using it after I shower everyday and recommended to friends for dry ski n conditions. Hope this helps.
Hi there. I had this scenario too, it took a while to get to the bottom of it but was actually certain dressings. Eg those used post biopsy and for picc line etc. We changed dressings and haven’t suffered the hives since. The medical professionals involved were very surprised. So it might be worth looking at if it applies to you? Good luck with this x
Hi bluesatsuma,
Thanks for posting.
Persistent itching can be difficult especially when you and your oncologist are unsure of the cause. Its not clear if you also have hives or a rash of any sort. As you have noticed the heat makes this worse the tips @bluetit11 might help, there is also some information in the previous link. Some people also find keeping creams in the fridge so they are cool when you apply them can be helpful.
It’s not clear why you are unable to have antihistamines. If this continues you may benefit from a dermatology opinion so your GP or treatment team could refer you.
