Hiya!!!

Hello everyone… I hope you don’t mind me joining! My name is Deb and I am a 28 year old married mam of three girls  On Sunday night I found a lump in my right breast - wasn’t really painful have had a bit of tenderness but thats about it… It’s all gone really fast from then on lol, went to the doctors on Monday have been referred to the Breast Screening Unit and my appointment is 15th March all though I have been told the will most likely bring my appointment forward. I have no family history and I am obvioulsy worried at the thought of what is going to happen ( fear of the unknown lol) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Deb xx

Hi debsmuz

Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums. Whilst you wait for the other forum users to reply with their experiences and information you may find it useful to read the BCC booklet ‘referral to a breast clinic’. It has information on the various tests carried out at the clinic, which will help to give you a better idea of what to expect.

If you would like to order a copy of this booklet or to read it on line just follow this link:-

Best wishes
Sam (BCC facilitator)

Hi Deb, dont panic! Easy to say I know. You are doing the right thing getting it checked out and everyone agrees waiting for results is awful. Your age is really in your favour but of course you need to know for sure - here’s hoping all will be well with you - I know of 3 women under 30 just this week who have all had great news on their breast lumps - in all cases the lumps were either lumpy breast tissue or in one case a small benign cyst. The mammograms and ultra sounds and biopsies are not too bad. Ask away if you have any queries - I have now finished my treatment - had a lumpectomy and 6 lots of chemo and am doing well at the moment. Let us know how you get on, you will get loads of support on here. All the best xDebbiex

Oh thanks so much  I think it is just fear of the unknown! I have a fantastic hubby supporting me and I’m sure everything will be fab. I am pleased I have been referred so quickly its the waiting isnt it? I hope that you are well and keeping positive and I really appreciate you taking the time to reply back to me…
Love Deb xxx

And thanks for link too!! Debbie… it’s fab to hear you have finished treatment and you are doing well  xxx

Debbie - It could be is a fluid-filled cyst, which they can drain with a needle using ultra-sound for guidance. I had some of these some years ago and I watched mine disappear before my eyes.

Hope yours is nothing to worry about. Please let us know how you get on.

Ann x

Thank you very much xxxx

Hi Debbie
It is quite normal to feel scared. As the other ladies say it may be nothing to worry about but I know that doesn’t stop you worrying!
When you go to the clinic they will probably do a mammogram (a liitle uncomfortable) and/or ultrasound (painless). Remember most lumps ARE nothing to worry about. The ladies on here are a fantastic source of support no matter what the result.
Good luck and I hope your results are good. x

Hi Debbie,

I found a lump about 3 weeks ago. I was feeling exactly the same as you. I was seen last week at the breast clinic and the consultant reckons its a fibroadenoma (benign tumour). I have a lumpectomy next week to confirm. Try to stay positive. The support from the ladies here has been fantastic. There are lots of other explanations for breast lumps other than cancer. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you very much ladies… I am sure that all is well, its just the un known isnt it?? I relly do appreicate your replies and the strength and courage that you all show is remarkable. I guess I just felt a bit scared. My husband is fab but I felt I was maybe going on a bit!! All though he hasn’t said as such. I find myself keep checking to see if has gone yet!! or I go in the bath and hope it will disappear, I guess this sounds very silly!!! Thank you very much for all of your comments and support  xxxxx

Not at all, nothing sounds silly, I bet everyone on here has wished the same thing, I know I have. Sending good luck vibes for you. x

Thank you very much:) x

This probably sounds a bit silly but I have been getting shooting pains in my neck and in my head also… I just assumed that it was spending too much time on facebook haha!! But when you find something you try and make sense of things don’t you? My lump and breast doesn’t feel very sore at all… Maybe a bit tender but I think that is more as I keep checking it’s still there! Other than that it doesn’t hurt at all. I am pleased that I have been referred so quickly to the Breast Unit, I thought maybe the Doctor would think I was silly. My appointment is 15th March, but I did get a phone call from my GP surgery saying the chances are that they will call me to go in sooner. I feel a bit silly for worrying so much compared to all you ladies and what you are facing… I have just started a new job and I had to go tell my boss (obv I’ll be needing the time off work) and he was fine with it he just said to tell him when I need off. ( He is normally very stroppy lol!) I just can’t seem to get it out of my head… I have been through something very similar last year I had an abnormal smear test and having needed a biopsy ( in the same hospital as I’ve been referred to this time!!) and the results of that were Severe Dyskariosis CIN 3 thankfully they took all of the pre-cancerous cells away and thank god my last smear was clear:) Next check is actually due end of march! It’s the waiting and the not knowing! Sorry again for rambling on and
Thank you so much  Debs xxx

Hi debs
I can totally understand what you are saying. After I found the lump I worried about every ache and pain that I felt…possibly because the lump was painful initially. I think its a natural reaction to the horror of finding something and having to go for tests. Its all just so scary.
By the way, if you start reading all the leaflets in the waiting room at the hospital, you’ll find you have symptoms for just about every disease known to man!
I’m way overdue for a smear test and I keep putting off making the appointment because I don’t think I could cope if they found anything else wrong. And I do know how foolish that is and I will make the call…after another cup of coffee…

Hi Everyone
Debs I felt the same as you terrified of what ‘might’ be coming fear of the unknown seems to do that to us all…try to stay positive as hard as that is. I agree with Sue anout not reading all the leaflets I didn’t as it would have freaked me out even more, my sister took them (then she read them and freaked herself out!!)
Sue re the smear test, I had the letter for mine the same time as all the bc stuff started so put it off as I couldn’t face having ‘both’ ends looked at at the same time, but have just made an appointment for a smear at the end of the month so i can get it over with…hopefully all will be well as I’ve never had any problems with it before…(then my mind says ah yes but you never had breast problems either and look what happened…doesn’t your mind work overtime whilst you are going through this!!)

Please call… Do it now ! seriously painless takes 5 mins and is so worth it. if there is one thing (or now 2 !!) get your smear test and check your boobs xxx

If I can book the smear test Sue so can you…otherwise you will have Deb and I nagging at you
