Hodgkins survivor and having a lumpectomy

Hello,

I recently got diagnosed with DCIS and I’m due a lumpectomy next week. This has been a result of Radiotherapy that I had after chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s lymphoma 25 years ago.
So I asked the question…is it likely to happen again? I was told that it is very likely to, and I will then need a double mastectomy if it does. I would opt for implants.
I would love to chat to anyone that has had a similar experience to know what comes next - re recovery time, scarring, pain management and ultimately feeling confident in my own skin, especially as I am single and would eventually like to be in a relationship in the future.
I am starting to feel a little nervous about it all …

Hi @LuluSpud , I hope you find our Forum a useful space to learn from other people’s experiences.

It is common to be nervous about a cancer diagnosis - we have a team of breast care nurses who would be very happy to chat to you about anything that’s on your mind. You can reach us on freephone 0808 800 6000 (Mon-Fri 9am-4pm; Sat 9am-1pm), or if you’d rather receive a written reply, you can post in our Ask Our Nurses board.

Sending all our love

Bernard
