Holiday, insurance and surgery treatment

Hi All, I’m booked a holiday a few months ago and stupidly didn’t book travel insurance at the same time. Since then, I’ve had a routine mammogram and been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Looking around, it seems insurance for a 5 day trip to Greek islands will be around £150. I’m hoping treatment will be done by June when i fly. The quote questions asked if it’s spread to lymph nodes but I don’t know the answer yet.

Would I be better off waiting til after surgery to buy insurance, so I can answer the questions more thoroughly?

Thanks!

Hi. Not sure if this helps but I used to work in travel. Most holidays if you wanted to change it within 12 weeks of travel you can do for only an admin fee. Just in case you wanted to delay it I wanted to make sure you knew that was an option. The closer it gets to travel the more it can cost. It’s nice to have something to look forward to though. :airplane:

Try Allclear insurance. Don’t use their online questions; phone them. They’ve covered me a few times during treatment. Sometimes answers to their standard questions aren’t a definitive yes or no so when you phone up you can explain exactly the situation and they’ll give you a quote.

Happy Holidays

I would also advise speaking to someone on the phone rather than going via a website . It may be that you would be better waiting until you have answers to these questions before getting your insurance and don’t feel bad about not getting any when you booked your holiday as you would have been obliged to inform them about your diagnosis anyway and that might have either voided that policy or incurred add on charges . I always go via a broker - not necessarily the cheapest but they’ve never steered me wrong and I have quite a depressing number of medical conditions to list now . If you discuss it with a broker they would be able to advise you. Xx

I use Insurancewith - by phone as the online form doesn’t always work. They should be able to advise you :hugs:

Hi, I recently needed travel insurance ( worldwide) but my radiotherapy treatment didn’t finish until 2 days before flying. I spoke to someone from All clear a week before and was quoted approx £380 for annual cover when I could tick the ‘ finished’ box. I thought this seemed reasonable but a week later the quote was nearer £500. I then found the same cover ( after double checking all my details were exactly the same) with Admiral for £115. So I would shop around and wait until you can tick as many boxes as possible regarding treatment/ results to bring down the cost
