I had lumpectomy and SNB in early July followed by node clearance on July 22nd. I am still awaiting results from this but assume that I will have to have chemo as soon s the wound has healed (mid August)
I have a once- in -a -lifetime holiday in Africa arranged for mid-Oct so would have to delay any chemo until early November. Has anyone any experience of delaying treatment?
Am I likely to have pressure put on me to cancel my holiday?

Hi Topsymo
I was due to go on a Carribean Cruise 8 weeks after my dx last November and was told to cancel. Did get all my money back fortunately and am hoping to book for this January coming.
I think I was told the chemo had to be started within 4 to 12 weeks but I may be wrong on this. Have you definitely been told you have to have it? Do you have to have rads too?
I really hope you can get your treatment delayed and enjoy that fab holiday…or maybe you can rebook too when your well on the road to recovery. Let me know how you get on.

hi my chemo was prolonged as my wound didnt heal properly. i had mastectomy in dec and didnt start chemo till march. when i had my op in dec it was such a shock to be told chemo would help. i thought it had all gone but they offered it to me for extra insurance. at the end of day it was up to me… my brain siad go for it if i can delay it. i too had a gt familt holiday booked. it was also my 50th birthday and our 30th wedding anniversary. so i wanted to delay it till sept… i did reasearch and all said needs to be started within three months. y y y i asked myself. if i hadnt gone to hospital till three months later etc i wouldnt be having it. noone could answer this. anyway decided to cancel hols parties etc and go for it. i also wanted tme delay to get fit for it… anyway my wound didnt heal so too risky to start chemo. eventually did in march… it was explained then now or never as the benefits of having chemo were going sown each week i waited. still couldnt work it out and still cant. if i had gone to dr last year or next year chemo would have been at different times so cant understand. anyway good luck with it. i am pleased now i did it and its over with although i stopped after 4 fec too sick to carry on. i was told i had had the major benefit of it anyway and 4 or 6 is normal. just waiting to start herceptin now… i just want a date to work to so i can book up a holiday for next year to celebrate hopefully… take care. a bit dull in bedfordshire this morning. ps i should imagine its better to start sooner than later if chemo is too shrink a tumor. so again depends on your dx.
Hi there,
I had to delay my third Chemo by a week due to my Mothers funeral in Isle of Man and they were fine about it.
I had my first op in June 07 but had 3 further excisions due to no clear margins, so didnt start my Chemo until September.
Everyone is different and I didnt think that Chemo was as bad as everyone told me. Generally nauseous for a couple days and then just a bit off colour for a few more days. So if you can time your holiday to start one week after a round of chemo you may be alright.
Lots of Love
Andrea xx
