Holiday travel insurance support

I am planning on going on a summer holiday in August after I have finished all my treatment in June. Has anyone had experience of getting travel insurance with breast cancer or after breast cancer? I wondered if I had finished treatment whether I even need to tell them as I won’t be taking any medication or anything by then. I was just wondering if the price of insurance was ridiculously higher because of letting the insurance company know. Thanks guys

We have an annual policy with Nationwide bank account , it was £30 top up fee .
I’m taking Anastrazole , so I had to declare that .
I think someone will hopefully recommend the name of a useful company soon :crossed_fingers:.

I just went to California for Xmas and used Staysure

If you’re finished with active treatment it’s cheaper

Insurewith was also the same price but had slightly less stars on trustapilot (not by much but I used it to make a decision)

It’s also cheaper to cover your fam separately but linked to your cover

I saved £140 this way x

I’ve been looking for insurance as I’m going away in May. I haven’t noticed it being massively more expensive to be honest, I used a comparison site and could get it as cheap as £23 :raised_hands:

I have used both Staysure and Allclear: insurance premiums were higher than before my diagnosis but not excessively so - that was European cover. I would say it’s best to declare your history to avoid the risk of any claim being challenged.

Who with

My trip was to the US so it was punchy
Argh

Hi @footie18

I’ve recently had a quote as well. My husband and I can get joint annual insurance for £65.

They do ask about medical conditions, and you should disclose you’ve had cancer but your hospital treatment has ended (this does effect the price). Do you not need to take any tablets afterwards I.e. immunotherapy or hormone therapy? If so, that needs to be disclosed but it’s not made a significant difference to my quote.

If anything happens while you are away, insurance companies will try anything to not pay out. Also think about late effects from treatments, tablets that may increase the risk of blood clots etc… so worth disclosing, and paying that little bit extra.

Happy holiday😃

Hi I used staysure and other similar companies they are cheaper after active treatment , you must declare any medical conditions , I insured me and my husband was alot cheaper than I thought , get a few quotes good luck xx

These did a live with BCN, the founder has had bc.

These are firms recommended quite a lot, I haven’t used them yet but I bookmarked them to be able to signpost if asked.

I finished Herceptin a few months ago and am hoping to book a holiday abroad this year. I’ve had asthma and allergies which I’ve always had to declare and had to pay extra on so called ‘free’ insurance with my bank.

Hope this helps :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I used a comparison site and there was loads! Saying that, I’m only looking for a single trip to Europe, which makes it a lot cheaper. I don’t go abroad enough for annual subscriptions  The £23 quote was for me and my husband though, and I declared cancer and tamoxifen etc.

Make sure you declare everything otherwise your insurance won’t be valid anyway.
InsuranceWith is good for breast cancer patients (note that this is not the same company as insureWith).

InsuranceWith are the best. I had a huge quote from Staysure a couple of years ago ( around £1000) Insurewith did the trip for £140.
Set up by a woman who had breast cancer and specialises in insurance for us.

I agree. I have always had decent quotes with InsuranceWith over the last nine years since my diagnosis.

Our insurance is with the bank .
They just say they won’t cover the breast cancer.
Chances of needing anything while away ,not a worry .
Just be careful if you have had radiotherapy mine got very sore .

Thank you! Our insurance is currently with the bank too. So did you just ring them and tell them about the cancer? Did they charge you any extra to what’s covered anyway?

Hi @footie18

Do declare or your insurance is invalid. I had a packaged bank account during and just after my BC treatment and the extra to cover me on the travel insurance bit months after my hospital treatment ended was hardly anything.

If you’re over 50 look at Saga, I now have to add lymphoedema and other stuff (not BC) into the mix for a trip to Australia this summer and I was shocked at how low it was for an annual policy

Last year, those lovely Meerkats only wanted change out of £60 for an annual policy for Europe.

Hi
There’s a whole thread sbout holiday and travel insurance. Use the search button top right
Ours is with Aviva and declared everything

Good luck

I used the ‘payingtoomuch.com’ website to find the best deal and got annual worldwide cover with Leisure Guard Premier Cover for £175.76. This is 9 years post treatment and still on Tamoxifen and with other health issues also covered.

I use Allclear. I had mastectomy last year with no more treatment planned & cancer appeared to be ignored from insurance calcs. Premium only changed because of my age. Happy travels x

I’ve used Saga as well - had mastectomy and chemo and currently on a course of herceptin. Very reasonably priced and cover everything.
