hi all
how soon after chemo will i feel like an energetic holiday. i intend to have 4 or 6 sessions every three weeks. i am also going to have herceptin. what will i feel like after… are there any after effects lingering on, when does my hair start to grow back. i am planning a two week hols abroad jeep safari walking touring etc a non stop holiday. ant advice welcome.

Hi Julie

I finished chemo on 21 Nov after having 3 x FEC and 3 x taxotere. I then started herceptin on 20 Dec and have had 2 so far. I feel heaps better on Herceptin than I did on chemo, as not attacking my immune system and so don’t feel so physically drained, still tired, but that is partly down to my two little ones i think. My hair is now about an inch I think, but not able to style or anything, but am hoping that by March will be lots better as we have booked to go to Florida at the end of March for 2 weeks.

I think everyone is different and responds differently, but Herceptin is easier to take as doesn’t take it out of you so much. Good luck with your treatment and the holiday.

Hi Dawn,

How have you managed to get so much hair so quickly? I had my last tax on Sept 14, and I still have less than 1/2 inch hair.

I fiinished 6xFEC at the end of August, my hair is bearly 1/2 inch. I am thinking it will never grow! Does wearing a wig stop it growing?

I finished 6 x FEC on 30th Nov and have about an inch of hair. I was told it was grey today, although it has been describe as Taupe and champane colours. I have never worn a wig. I am having my 2nd herceptin on thursday.

I still don’t fancy a very active holiday went for a lovely walk on Satuday ( about 3/4 of an hour, on the flat) but had to sit down for a while towards the end to summon up the energy to get back.

I had to cancel a fortnight in the Maldives last Nov due to still having chemo. I still don’t think I would be ready to go now if I were to make the most of it. (I like lots of swimming)

Well think my hair is about an inch long, looks about that, but very dark. I have worn a wig the whole time, so that doesn’t stop it growing. It has come back very dark though and I was mousey blonde before,

Hopefully will keep growing and start speeding up for my hols in April!!!

Hi Dawn,

Mine is darker too, although I was brown to start off with. I also have more grey, when I hardly had any before. That is irritating as I am 45 and had been pleased before with the lack of grey. Most of my friends are already grey or colouring their hair, and I didn’t want to join them.

I am off on holiday a week on Sat, although I will be skiing so wearing a woolly hat most of the day. I have bought some nice hats from Monsoon to wear otherwise, if I don’t feel up to showing off my new hair in the evenings.
