Hormone therapy problems

Hi Ive taken Anastrozole for 6 month, then Exemestane (after a month’s break) for another 6 months. I cannot function on either of them. I want to stop but dont want oncologist talking me into trying Tamoxifen as was suggested if the other two gave me bad side effects. Ive already had surgical menopause in 2007 after hysterectomy and oopharectomy so feel like its a double whammy! My cancer was grade 2 but small and without lymph node involvement. It was ER8 PR6 and HER2 low 2+. So told classed as negative.

Ive got surgery coming up for a grade 4 capsular contracture which is very uncomfortable and with all the other symptoms from the Hormone blockers. I can’t think how I will function after.

Ive just had sinus surgery and had to stay in recovery for 4 hours because my blood pressure was high and oxygen very low. I dont normally have any issues after an anaesthetic. Just feel like I need to stop the Exemestane before this next surgery. Has anyone else had similar? Im sorry to complain but just feel in a bit of a dilemma! Xx

Have you looked at your PREDICT scores with and without it?

I used the newest version which has more treatments but isn’t fully adopted yet. https://breast.v3.predict.cam/

I had about half of the side effects listed on the Letrozole packet leaflet and a very small benefit from taking it so decided to stop taking it.

It might help with your dilemma

Hi @susynight

I feel for you. I tried letrozole and tamoxifen and couldn’t cope with either of them. In the end I said I wanted to stop and fortunately the oncologist was understanding. He could see the distress it was causing me so we agreed to it together.

I hope you can get to a decision you can both agree on. Hope the appointment goes well, will be thinking of you. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
