Hi all,
Coming to the end of my 12 weeks of chemo soon. Have been talking to onc as to what will be next, as I am ER+++ the options so far are Zoladex with ?Femara, oophorectomy or radiotherapy to stop oestrogen production. I am quite anxious about the hormones as Tamoxifen didn’t help when I was first diagnosed with my liver mets and when I was younger and taking the pill I suffered from high blood pressure and was put on medication to control it. Surprisingly, my blood pressure is fine at the mo but we have family history too, Mum has it and my brother died at 33 from subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by undiagnosed high BP. Has anybody any experience of any of these? I would really appreciate your input.
Cheers,
Allie
Hi Allie, I’ve been having monthly injections of Prostap since early 2004. It works just like Zoladex but has a finer needle. I was found to have a blood clot to lung just after being diagnosed and was put on Warfarin so the finer needle helped with less bruising. Have been fine with injections…for a while was put on a 3 monthly slow release jab but I found my tumour markers were rising slightly towards the end of the 3 months so was put back onto 4 weekly.
Belinda…x
Hi Belinda,
Thanks for the info, I have never heard of Prostap before, a blood clot on the lung is not a very nice side effect! Just worried that the hormones will have the same effect as the Pill or be uneffective like the Tamoxifen. Its all such a gamble, mind you the onc got it right with the chemo as it has nailed the mets in my liver, I am going to have separation issues when they take it away!! I feel so well at the moment, this is the best I have felt since May, don’t want to get poorly again I have a business to run and Xmas is a very busy time for me being a chocolatier!
Take care
Allie
Hi Allie…I was diagnosed with bc (and bone mets) when my hip fractured. Had to wait a few days for a (very successful) hip replacement and unable to move I must have developed the blood clot…which then went on a journey to my lung…all was fine after 6 months of Warfarin.
Good Luck with Femara…I had a while on Tamoxifen but have now had over 2 and a half years on Arimidex which I think is very similar to Femara.
What a fab job! I’m sure I would eat all my profits! Good Luck.
