Hot flushes - any suggestions

Hi

I’ve recently completed 6 sessions of FEC. Almost immediately my periods stopped and I started with hot flushes, especially at night time. At 42 I was treated for a while with HRT for the menopause, so now at 44 I am expecting this to be the menopause. I have a chill pillow and I am taking soya tablets as I read these can be really good for hot flushes. However I still have the sleepness uncomfortable nights. My breast cancer was non responsive to hormones so I am lucky not to have to go on tomoxifin etc, Docs have no suggestions. Any suggestions out there. If I could improve the sleepness nights it would be fantastic.

hey there,

i had really bad hot flushes (luckily i got my cycle back tho) and had them for several months. My onc suggested taking black cohosh (i think thats the name!) and i also took strong evening primose tablets - a boots pharmacist also suggested these and found they helped quite alot.
i also quite coffee as i’d heard this can make them worse, and alcohol. there’s alot of natural remedies out there, i’d suggest a trip to boots and maybe somewhere like holland and barrat or a wholefoods store - are you in london? theres a wholefoods store around soho and there was a girl in there who really knew her stuff about herbal teas, and recommended some for women with flushes. she gave me a whole load of samples to try, and found a couple that helped me get a nice uninterrupted nights sleep. have a look about, and also my breast care unit had some leaflets which had loads of suggestions in but dont have one to go through now, but maybe you could find one at your docs??

hope they improve, can really sympathise! x x x

just found a tea bag lurking around, one of the samples she gave me was by pukka organic herbal teas, and is a pink one called harmonise, balancing for women, and contains chamomile flowers, rose, vanilla and shatavari tea. im pretty sure its caffeine free, but i would really recommend going to a proper health store and asking them about natural caffeine free teas as i really found they helped.

Hi

I am halfway through 6 FEC, and really struggling with the hot flushes. I have just sent for a ladycare magnet which many of my friends swear by!!! The website is www.menopause.uk.com. I am hoping this will work for me!!!

Check out Pro-Banthine on Google - it is for excessive sweating and worked very well for me when I was on Tamoxifen. It is available on prescription.

Considered the magnet, Kim, but didn’t know anyone who could recommend it - or otherwise. Pleased to hear you have good reports about it. Let us know how you get on with it.

God bless.

Hi there

I have actually been told to avoid soya as it contains natural phyto oestrogens or something? As my cancer is oestrogen + I think.

What is the healthfood shop in Soho Peppermintpatty?

I have been told sage is good, but yet to try it.
